“I still love it, but this stay was not as good...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2012

I was here at the begining of Dec and the day after arrival the lift in the first tower was out of order for over 24 hours. I was on the top floor, room 1304, at 10 pm that night after a long day out the idea of climbing those stairs was not pretty. The recepeptionist apologised and offered me me complimentary water, I declined as I had water in the room already, she explained that they were waiting on parts, this will happen.
I sent a room request through reservations as I know the room types I like here and they were very obliging, however I now know the top floor rooms in the front towere are about 3 feet smaller than the ones below, this would not be a problem, but they still hold the same amount of furniture, this room needs a furniture cull, what is the dining table in the lower floors is the writing desk in this room, so it it is wider and plugging in your lap top will have you down on "all fours" crawling amongst all of the furniture, it doesn't work, when I went out on the balcony and looked over I could see that the rooms on this floor are set back in from the lower floors giving you about 3 feet less floor space, to me the easy thing is ditch some of the furniture, or downsize it, you could not access the waste bin, it was as easy to get to as the power points, basically there was too much furniture in the room.
The guest comment form had been partially filled in from a previous guest. I pulled it out of the compendium and left it on the table but during 3 days, no replacement appeared.
I still love Fraser Place Melbourne, despite the hiccups on this stay, my package had a good cooked breakfast, with simple but adequate choices and always served very quickley and efficiently, so apart from the lift out of order and on the way down on the second morning passing the very hardworking housekeeping staff on the way up through the fire stairs to service the rooms, I think they did a brilliant job, they had to haul their housekeeping supplies up those stairs, now while as a paying guest I expect a working elevator, I really appreciate the fact that they carried out all services to the rooms in that period, there are companies who would have hidden behind service difficulties etc and not cleaned the rooms.
Overall I still had a great stay, coming back to the hotel midday tues 6th dec and finding the lifts working again was a godsend as I don't think I could have done a 13 floor hike a second time, though I think my doctor would have reccommended it.
I'll be back.
PS a new Laksa Bar has just opened around the corner in the laneway, it's awsome and not expensive, a great dinner especially if you're on your own on business, you can take it straight up to the room.

Room Tip: Rooms are not a problem here as it is in a very quiet laneway on the CBD fringe of Melbourne, I pers...

Secured a great deal from Zuji for 3 night stay in Melbourne.
Location very handy for our needs.
Room was well fitted out, with basic cooking facilities, fridge etc.
Bed was comfortable & unit clean & inviting.
Would have liked a better view than into other units, as we were in the centre units.
Staff were receptive & helpful.
Only downsides..........an annoying odour from trap in bathroom.
This was addressed by room attendant.
A few "yobbo's" creating a disturbance on several occassions.
Overall we were satisfired with our great deal on this property.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher outside room with small balcony, away from inside units & lifts.

If you want to stay within the Melbourne City grid, then Cube Service Apartment would make a good choice. It is located at quieter part of Melbourne City, and near the free City Tram stop which will bring you to other parts of Melbourne City easily. It is also located within walking distance from the Carlton Gardens.

The room was clean and with new modern furnishings. Bathroom was spacious. Room came with a small balcony and kitchenette. Kitchenette was useful for us to prepare or heat up simple food for our toddler. The room could accommodate a cot comfortably. Our room was not facing the front of the building, it was facing an airwell which was quiet and did not encounter the noise mentioned by some of the earlier reviewers.

Recommended stay for family with young child.

Room Tip: May request a room facing the airwell (back facing) for less noise.

Tucked away towards the edge of the city grid, Fraser Place is great value for money. Clean and comfortable, our room had a quirky little bathroom, balcony, along with a small dining table and very handy kitchenette! Not so sure why you'd need it though - the location of this hotel is right among a very 'now' part of Melbourne, with plenty of great drinking and dining venues just waiting to be discovered in the surrounding alleyways. The guys at Fraser do a great job with what they have, and I'd heartily recommend this place for value.

I had a room to te back of the hotel and therefore did not experience the heat of the morning sun or noise from the rubbish trucks. The location is great and the hotel is very close to the tram stations to catch the free City Circle tram and it is about 5 minutes to Parliament Station for trains. Once you purchase the transport day pass for A$7 from many newsagents, 7-Eleen shops, on the bus or the train station, you can hop onto all trams, trains and buses to go to zone 1 places for a full day. We took a ride out to the beach when we had some time on our hands.
The hotel is close to places of interest such as the Melbourne Museum, IMAX Theatre (entrance fee for IMAX is quite steep), Italian & Greek precincts and Bourke Street Chinatown.
I rate the accommodation as above average. The bed was too soft for bad backs. However, the honesty of the housekeeping staff is commendable as I left wallet and mobiles in the room and went off for a full day. When I returned, I was relieved that nothing was amiss.

On the whole I was happy with the hotel.

Room Tip: Choose room to the back of the hotel.

The room was similar to a studio apartment, with a small kitchen fully equipped. But you would probably go out for dinner when it's a short stay. The bathroom is a plus, white modern, with a confortable large shower. No view from our room (606). The bed was a bit too soft. Internet on demand and quite expensive. One remark: the housekeeping is not done on sundays.

Recently we stayed at Fraser Place Hotel in Melbourne and found one of the best value for money stops on the many trips that we do.Centrally situated..spotlessly clean..fully equpped room Fridge.. Microwave.. Gas stove and all other essentials. The price for this excellent unit was $150.00 per night twin share. And in Melbourne Central very cheap. Also I must add that Melbourne is a very friendly and warm hearted city. There is an atmosphere of no pressure as everything moves at a leisurely pace.Odd for a major city. The people are courteous and helpful in every way Full of entertainment and wonderful day tours.. Ideal for a long or short stay. Oneeye Queensland

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a high floor facing Exploration Lane
