I was here at the begining of Dec and the day after arrival the lift in the first tower was out of order for over 24 hours. I was on the top floor, room 1304, at 10 pm that night after a long day out the idea of climbing those stairs was not pretty. The recepeptionist apologised and offered me me complimentary water, I declined as I had water in the room already, she explained that they were waiting on parts, this will happen.
I sent a room request through reservations as I know the room types I like here and they were very obliging, however I now know the top floor rooms in the front towere are about 3 feet smaller than the ones below, this would not be a problem, but they still hold the same amount of furniture, this room needs a furniture cull, what is the dining table in the lower floors is the writing desk in this room, so it it is wider and plugging in your lap top will have you down on "all fours" crawling amongst all of the furniture, it doesn't work, when I went out on the balcony and looked over I could see that the rooms on this floor are set back in from the lower floors giving you about 3 feet less floor space, to me the easy thing is ditch some of the furniture, or downsize it, you could not access the waste bin, it was as easy to get to as the power points, basically there was too much furniture in the room.
The guest comment form had been partially filled in from a previous guest. I pulled it out of the compendium and left it on the table but during 3 days, no replacement appeared.
I still love Fraser Place Melbourne, despite the hiccups on this stay, my package had a good cooked breakfast, with simple but adequate choices and always served very quickley and efficiently, so apart from the lift out of order and on the way down on the second morning passing the very hardworking housekeeping staff on the way up through the fire stairs to service the rooms, I think they did a brilliant job, they had to haul their housekeeping supplies up those stairs, now while as a paying guest I expect a working elevator, I really appreciate the fact that they carried out all services to the rooms in that period, there are companies who would have hidden behind service difficulties etc and not cleaned the rooms.
Overall I still had a great stay, coming back to the hotel midday tues 6th dec and finding the lifts working again was a godsend as I don't think I could have done a 13 floor hike a second time, though I think my doctor would have reccommended it.
I'll be back.
PS a new Laksa Bar has just opened around the corner in the laneway, it's awsome and not expensive, a great dinner especially if you're on your own on business, you can take it straight up to the room.
