Stayed there for 8 nights. Likes - Great Location in the CBD and near to many attractions, discount if you are a member of YHA and staying for more than a week, cleanliness, safety. Dislikes - small sometimes very crowdy kitchen, expensive internet if you dont have your laptop, you have to carry your own padlock if you want to use locker in room otherwise buy expensive one from hostel.

This is centrally located. The entrance is small and inconspicuous, but the property is very good. The entry is resrricted to only the card holders i.e the residential areas of the Youth hostel. You can enter the reception any time. The rooftop place gives excellent view of the city. Yarra river is nearby. The Flinder street is a good place to be. Melbourne international convention center is just walking distance from youth hostel. There are good arrangements for cooking your food. WiFi is available at cost. But the connectivity is excellent

A great place to stay. Central to everything. Southern Cross station is only a couple of blocks away. Clean. And secure. But book before hand. If you can. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Great place to stay. Tip: see if you can get a "myki" card from here. As people donate them for others to use. Then donate them back. You need a myki to get around, everywhere on public transport.

Staff were friendly and helpful, I arrived too early for check in, they kept my bag for me & suggested things I could do in the area whilst I waited. Good atmosphere. Great location, within walking distance of most touristy things.

High security place, great location close to southern cross and flinders street stations, aquarium and eureka skydeck 88 for example.
Bertha Brown down stairs is closed so it was nice and quiet. Small self-sustained kitchens, decent bathrooms, wish for toilet brushes though cause sometimes the toilets didn't look very nice. Very big. Not very big boxes to lock your stuff in in the rooms though. Had coin lockers in the rooftop terrace but all big ones where taken. Nice rooftop terrace with bbq area =)

My son was in the city for a mates birthday and they wanted somewhere to crash that was close to Crown Casino which is just over the Yarra so very easy to get to. As there were four of them they had a 4 bed dorm to themselves which they said was clean and had a locker under each bunk to store your stuff apparently you could hire a lock to go on it or I guess you could bring your own ( you might want to check on that one). Each person is given a swipe card which is used to access the their dorm so very secure. My son said facilites where clean and there is 24 hour reception which is handy when coming home at 4am! Linen is provided, pillows but you need to bring your own towel. Checkout was 10am and you could also pay an additional $7 and get breakfast provided, I'm guessing that was just toast & cereal but not sure. There is a bar/ barbie area on the roof which would be great in Summer. Only a few blocks to Southern Cross Station, free city circle tram stops out the front, Crown Casino across the river so a fantastic location. It was $42 for the night each so way cheaper than a hotel room. My son really enjoyed it and I'm sure he will stay there again when partying in the city sure beats having to wait around for the first train home!

YHA was the first hostel me and my mates experienced. Set the bar high and we were disappointed when we arrived at other hostels as it was not as amazing as YHA. Well done guys.

We had 3 shared bedroom all to ourselves. We were worried about space but we were never in each other's way even with our bags. Each of us had ample space to pack our things. We felt right at home. The wall is a little thin so I reckon everyone on our floor could hear our songs and laughter. Sorry!

Toilet was clean! I am very particular about toilets and I love YHA's. There's no need to queue despite having only 2 shower cubicles and 2 toilets. The toilet is bright and dry!

The kitchen is a little on the small side and it could get a little tight around 8ish.

People are friendly and staff was alright. One staff gave my friend wrong information but that was rectified by another stuff. Not sure what is his name though.

Security was good. Location was fantastic. 7-11 around the corner, kebab shop down the road and pizza shop just across. The city circle team stop is right outside the hostel! 10-15 mins walk to Swanston and 5-10 mins walk to South Wharf. The best part? 5 mins walk to Southern Cross Station. Great place to stay if you have to check out at 4 in the morning. There is no need for you to take a taxi down to the Sky Bus :)

All in all a good first hostel experience for me! Will stay here again.
