Dined here about a week ago. We sat outside, Parisian-style, at a small table out on the footpath. My friend who lives in Melbourne comes here regularly, and decided to take me here during my stay. The service was extremely prompt and efficient. There was no menu given; you just read the specials and other dishes off a big blackboard on the wall near the door. I had the John Dory fillets with caponata, for a very reasonable $24. I was impressed with the quality and value for money. The food was very tasty. My friend enjoyed her gnocchi too. I can't comment on the wines, as I am not a wine drinker. I had a look inside the restaurant too and the atmosphere seemed pleasant and cosy (probably nicer than the slightly cramped and sometimes smoky alfresco area), though the bathroom was not great. I would have given the review 4/5 for the food, but have given it 3/5 since I was not wild about the al fresco ambiance. Would have liked it give it 3.5 overall. Would definitely be happy to go there again next time I am in Melbourne though - for the good quality, reasonably priced food.
