Try the Irish Stew - it comes served in a loaf of bread! Delicious!

We were looking forward to a meal in an authentic style Irish pub with good music, friendly ambience and hearty good value food.

The food was tasty and all cooked to our liking and, true to the Irish, the portions were large and good value. Between the group I was with we had steaks, fish and chips, through to the Irish stew. All were good with the stew being really good.

However the ambience was not great and service, although friendly, was unattentive and not that well informed, but hey we were in a pub so that's ok. The music was recycled pop Christmas songs which although seasonal (we attended a few days after Christmas) a little boring and not becoming of this old Irish pub feel.

The main reason I wouldn't recommend this place for a meal is the cleanliness. The toilets were dirty and smelly. They reminded me of a typical nightclub toilet after a hard night which was a shame considering we were using the restaurant toilets at 7pm. The floors and walls in the restaurant area are greatly in need of a good clean and paint. This place has obviously seen a lot of action and it shows. No problem if you've popped in for a pint of Guinness with the lads after work, but not the best if you've come in for a nice meal.

Overall and average experience made up sightly by tasty good value meals. We were surprised to realise this was the same place that has picked up some great hotel awards over the past few years.

Lovely irsih waitresses - steaks, fish and chips, Irish stew, and pies - all well cooked, and presented. Limited wine list, but plent of choice in beers. It's very noisy and crowded, but recommended for families.

Maybe I was drunk from the Killkenny...

But the Eye Fillet was the best. The meat the sauce and the spud/vegie thing. All phenomenal.

Best part: Even after two pints of Killkenny, I felt fantastic the next day.

10 points for atmosphere too.. but like I said, I may have been drunk
