I have stayed here a few times over the past couple of years, sometimes with my wife and daughter, sometimes when I have a late meeting or one early the next day. The club offers consistency of service with good rooms at a great price!
The rooms themselves are large and well furnished. The bathrooms are really good, usually with both a bath and shower and great high quality shampoo and conditioner. That's a nice touch! It's true that the city location means that some of the rooms are looked into by offices or apartments across a small street, and it also means they can be a bit dark. It is easy to get privacy with their blinds and curtaining system.
I haven't eaten other than breakfast in the club so can't comment on the restaurants. Breakfast is good as you can choose a la carte or from the buffet. Service with tea and coffee can be a little hit and miss, as it can be if you're just in for a coffee during the day. I actually had tea delivered with no cup, and when I went up to the counter to ask the Barrista if I could have a cup, rather than just give me one, she turned to a member of staff just wandering past and told him to get it for me.
Parking is usually included in the room rate which is great in expensive downtown Melbourne. Carparks are large and generous and they have that terrific light system which shows vacant spots with a green overhead light. Just watch out, however, for cars coming in from your right.
I do like staying here and intend to keep doing so. It is comfortable and convenient and good value. If you're after more polished service and perhaps a little closer attention you'd probably go to the Hilton at South Wharf, but if not, this place ticks all the boxes.
