Great vibe, heaps of friendly welcoming people... mostly backpackers and travellers... Excellent pub at the ground floor with affordable beer, good music and nice atmosphere. Bedrooms are high quality as well, such as the kitchen.

I was lucky to have a nice and quiet room while I was falling asleep all time so needed to repair my sleep :)
+ comfy and clean, book your activities, well situated, honest price (although I have paid extra $$ because at the Australian Open period), breakfast incl.
- breakfast is for small eaters, staff will probably smile only if you tip them, sink in ensuite room was completely stuck and i needed to ask the staff 3x !!! to fix it, still not fixed after my second and last night.

My experience at the Urban was very much a mixed bag to be honest, our intial stay was for 1 week though found ourselves in a windowless room which was awkard knowing what time of day it was or even what clothes to throw on for the day. Nice roommates though and was clean enough. Second week, was in a room with a window however this time we were placed on 4th Floor over the nightclub and smoking area side of the building meant that we defo didn't get any sleep til after 3am or so. Still struggling to find accommodation in Melbourne, we booked for a further week only to find ourselves subject to 3 room changes which was a complete and utter nuisance.
The facilities were ok, not alot of hot water for showering. Breakfast was basic but better than some hostels however I really dreaded cooking in the kitchen - absolute manic, dirty even within 10 minutes of the officially cleaning of the kitchen other users would just mess up the place at first chance, food on floors all over counters, etc. Didn't really appreciate the amount of times I had to stop people taking my pot off the stove to take it themselves, eh - hello I'm cooking here..! So some of my gripes were with the people staying there but staff, hmm.. well they weren't great. Only 2 or 3 permanent the rest of them are long term stayers working couple hrs a day for free accommodation so quite frankly they couldn't be bothered so made it hard if you had question/problem.
Bar inside, whilst initially seems quite cool is really a hit or miss - not all there activities go ahead plus more often than not the biggest party place is the dinning area despite the fact some people who arrive in late to wipe up a dinner have nowhere to sit amongst the drunken backpackers taking up the dinning area to drunk ultra cheapo..!!
This place will be for some, not for all - I did enjoy some of my time there with meeting people but overall not sure if I'd rush back. Though would prob recommend it for 2 or 3 nights if your passing and make sure you ask for a room facing the city to avoid nightclub noise..!

Didn't expect to be staying in a mixed dorm. There should be a joke that starts "A Brit, a Scot, and an Irishman walk into a Canadian". Their socks stank and it was easily the most interesting experience of the decade. It was safe, and it was fun.

Noisy. Staff not friendly. Told us they provide free car park but the car park is actually shared with a bar, so even if the car park is not full, they may tell you the car park is fully occupied as well, because they need to reserve for bar, etc.
