Description: Jill & George Mure opened Tasmania's first licensed seafood restaurant, Mures Fish House, in 1973 in Hobart. When they struggled to source quality, fresh, local seafood, George went fishing. More than 40 years on, now owned by Will & Jude Mure, Mures remains a favourite of locals and visitors alike, located in Hobart's working fishing port at Victoria Dock. Mures' philosophy of fresh Australian seafood, sourced from sustainably managed fisheries still rings true from the ocean to the plate. At Lower Deck you can enjoy a wide variety of seafood from the licensed Bistro, including Mures' own line caught blue eye trevalla, as you take in the sights and sounds of the waterfront. Start the day off right with breakfast by the docks, served daily from 7am. Check out the vast array of Australian seafood at the Fishmongers including rock lobster, salmon, scallops and mussels, where you can order freshly shucked Tasmanian oysters from the Oyster Bar. Mures' own range of gourmet seafood products, Tasmanian wines, cider and recipe books are also available. Finish off with a local roasted coffee or choose from 32 flavours of ice cream at the Cafe.

On our first day in Hobart, we had lunch at Mures. It was a relaxing place to sit & watch the boats come & go. You couldn't get any fish (on the day) that wasn't either battered or fried eg Grilled, which was disappointing. The portions were generous, which is supposed to make up for the average fried food. Next time i'l have the non sea food lunch. The beer was cold at least

Hi Simon and Sandra

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on Trip Advisor regarding your recent experience at Mures Lower Deck. Mures continues to be a family owned business with a very hands on approach to business. We pride ourselves on serving the very best quality that has been expertly cared for from the moment it has been caught right through to service.

We noticed in your feedback that you were under the impression our menu has no grilled seafood options. We apologise if the options were not made clear to you at the time of service. Our current menu does offer a range of grilled seafood dishes including Blue Eye Trevalla, Huon Atlantic Salmon and Tassie Scallop Skewers. These are all served with salad and chips. We also have vegetarian and gluten free dishes available for guests with special dietary needs.

We hope this feedback helps and hope to see you again when you next visit Hobart.

Many thanks

Ate there several times. You can choose your fish from the fishmonger and he will cook it as you like maybe grilled in garlic butter/oil.The scallops, the prawns delcious. And good reasonable wine by the glass

Good value seafood - tasty salmon & prawns
Cheaper to eat downstairs at Mures and easier if you have kids. Prefer the food & ambience of Mures upstairs restaurant if a smaller group or dining with adults.

Our last meal in Hobart and a great one. We had fresh oysters, prawns, fish, salad and a great bottle of wine. Service was speedy and the restaurant immaculately clean. Thank you for good food and good service :)

The atmosphere was good here in this very busy restaurant and some of the cold fish platters looked good. However, our particular experience was not good. It was a Friday night so we expected to wait a while for our food, but it took over an hour for us to finally get some food. When we sat down to eat, my chowder was cold and the 'catch of the day' with chips was a tiny portion. They swapped my chowder immediately for another, but this was no hotter. We won't be going back. We should have gone to one of the food vans outside...
