Tucked away in a row of shops in a crescent off the main road in Sandy Bay, our daughter guided us to this lovely restaurant. The service and food were exceptional and, although we're unlikely to visit again in the near future, we will recommend it to others.

Me Wah are a family owned Chinese restaurant in Hobart just out of the cbd. If you have never ventured uphill to try some fine Chinese cuisine then this place is a great introduction. Their care shows and they know how to serve up some great fair. Their food definitely rivals some of the fine establishments of Sydney and Melbourne but without the hefty price tag.

We've been eating here a few times a year since it opened (and eaten at the sister restaurant in Launceston) and it's always fabulous.

The food is lovely - it is more expensive that a number of other chinese restaurants, but the quality of the produce and the care in the preparation of the meals makes it worth it. The staff are great - attentive without being too invasive. The water glass is always topped up as it the wine. They also have a drinks cart that is truly spectacular for a real knees up at the end and the wine list is really impressive (as you can see by the large glassed wine room you pass as you enter).

They also so takeaways which are just as good.

I've eaten here as a couple in the main restaurant (which is quite large) and in a group of 12, where we had a private room and both experiences were great.

Probably the best meal I've ever had in Hobart and I've lived here 26 years. Simply sublime food and excellent service. Probably the only complaint I could make is that it is a bit lacking in atmosphere but all very classy nonetheless. What I particularly like is that the food is so good but there's no attempt to fluff themselves up with obscure words on the menu. The portions are a decent size and, though the prices are high, it's well worth the money. This restaurant must also have the distinction of the most expensive bottle of wine on their wine list that I've ever seen: A$33,000!!! Admittedly, it's a one and a half litre bottle....(We had a perfectly decent French red for A$65!) I wonder if they sell many....And what if you ordered it and it was so delicious you just had to buy a second bottle...?

We had a very enjoyable meal here, and the food and decor is well up on your usual suburban Chinese. Great service and delicious food comes at a higher cost of course. I could have been in Shanghai, until the bill arrived. Recommended for a nice meal out.
