The Mantra is in a good location and handy for the Salamanca Markets and a short walk to other tourist spots around the Harbour. It is clean, well equipped but very dreary in its internal decor. Not very appealing both outside and inside, but good secure car parking and informative and pleasant staff.

Room Tip: High floor facing the Harbour

Stayed in a one bedroom apartment for four nights on the 4th floor. We had views to Mt Wellington and the Hobart Hills. The apartment was clean and handy to the Salamanca area, restaurants and other attractions. The apartment was clean and the staff friendly. The only down was the tv which was old and analogue with no digital channels, but hey we did not stay there to watch tv with everything else so handy. Would stay again.

Stayed at Mantra One Sandy Bay from the 3rd February till the 7th February. The position of this place is fantastic, literally a 5 mins stroll to Salamance Place and Hobart City and Battery Point. Over the road is a beautiful Park. The view we had from our windows was out over the water and of the university next door, the buildings were not all that good to look at, but the view of the water was just beautiful.
The apartment was very clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
I would definately recommend staying here, when booking (over the internet or by phone) ask for a room with a view.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the water or the park

I booked Mantra One Sandy Bay Road for our visit to Tasmania while traveling through Australia.

I only saw the "apartment" we were in so I don't know about other units. However based on some of the previous reviews, it seems others have had the same experience.

This was a very dreary apartment. Only one window that is up quite high in the "living" area, no other windows.

When you walk in the door there is a cheap looking divider that has the bed on the other side, then you walk through the kitchen, then the "living" room which is a large, very poorly furnished space. Absolutely no personal or decorative touch, just a space.

The AC is in the "living" area so the bedroom area is stuffy. The dryer did not work.

This building was obviously not designed to be a hotel or apartments. I would definitely not book here again.

We stayed here for 5 nights recently. Had read many conflicting reviews and can now see why when I have looked at the pics of the reviewer of room 509 and the pics on Mantra One's site - they don't add up really completely to our room which was 508??? When we first arrived and entered the 'apartment', which I had booked as a One Bedroom Executive Apartment - we were really shocked that there was only one teeny tiny window in the lounge area??? No window in the bedroom - and the bedroom only has a flimsy wardrobe between it and the front door? This could have been done much nicer. Anyway I do often feel claustrophobic in holiday accommodation where there are no opening windows so I did go to reception and enquired about an alternative - they were extremely understanding and helpful although for the first night they were fully booked but could offer us two alternatives that would be available the following day. The Receptionist also pointed out to us that they would have some traffic noise as they were lower floors and faced the street/s - one would even have the beeping from the pedestrian crossing :S I said we would see how we slept that night and let them know first thing in the morning. As it turned out we stayed in the same room as it was very quiet.
If you stood at the window which was chest height you could admittedly see the river, cruise ships at wharf, casino and surrounding hills - quite pleasant, but you could only see it while standing at the window....
Looking at the review by "Kalthor" and their pics they had a much better decorated room than ours. Ours was spartan and with outdated televisions (lounge one got more channels that bedroom area one - but you could only see part of the shows as they were old square screens - shocking really), cheap and nasty kettle and toaster, bare walls, very big bare walls as the ceilings are high - which is great but some artwork is needed to make it more welcoming and attractive. Having said this the kitchen was a lovely design, although some maintenance would have been a good idea for some of the cupboards. We didn't cook in the kitchen as there are so many eating spots to experience nearby - so we only used it for 'supper' and coffee/tea making. The bed was a king size but as other reviewers have noted not a comfy king size as there is a terrible join which must be the zipping mechanism - a simple fluffy comfy mattress protector would help solve this problem and also cover up the hardness of the mattress too. The bathroom was reasonably appointed but once again could do with some maintenance as the drawers dropped down and were scraping the wall.... The shower recess base made some uncomfortable noises while you were standing on it - I am sure that rooms below would hear it - needs to have some packing under it for support. Water pressure isn't brilliant but the water quality is lovely on your hair. I didn't like the washer/dryer combo as it took well over 2 hrs to do a wash and dry of one lot of washing?!?!?!? We enquired at Reception and were provided with a folding dryer which proved easier to get the washing done and pop it on this to dry. Overall the 'apartment' was spacious, but sparsely furnished and decorated - even some cheap wall hangings would make the walls and the rooms more welcoming and bring some colour into the blandness. I wouldn't like to be in the room during a wet and miserable day as when we were there during beautiful weather the room felt very depressing if you dwelt on the lack of decor. Must say though that our room facing the back was very very quiet - we didn't really hear any of our neighbours or any traffic noise - this would be one of the bonuses of staying here. We didn't use the carpark as we travelled in by bus from the airport (they drop you at the door for $17 each one way - special price for return) and then collected a rental car at the end of our stay - the carpark did look a bit cramped and awkward to use for anything above a small car. Mantra One is perfect to walk to Salamanca through the beautiful St Davids Park (even late at night we felt safe), visit the Aust Wooden Boat Festival (every 2 years), catch the ferry to MONA (a must see), walk to the city and around the docks. Not sure if we would stay here again - maybe if we were given a pleasantly furbished room. Quite an expensive stay for the quality of what could be absolutely tremendous accommodation - we know we were staying during a peak time, hence the cost but so much more could be done to make it comfortable and desirable for another visit at not much expense with a clever decorator.

Room Tip: Rooms on top floor facing back are quiet!
