“A well kept secret”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 16, 2012

I love this place and just keep going back, the food, service and price are fantastic! Lovely Tom Yum entrée, and always order a main with extra cashews on the side, a nice little addition. Love the Panang Nua or the Gai Pad Ta-Khrai (stir fried chicken with lemongrass). The staff will ask you if you want it cool, medium or very spicy.
It's BYO, cheap corkage, or you can purchase your drinks there at very reasonable prices. They do vegetarian dishes too.

The meals are great and it would be very hard to beat the price and service combination.

“Poor quality and unauthentic Thai food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2012

Stepping into Siam Garden we were unsure whether or not we'd get a table as the place was buzzing with people even though it was mid-week. Thankfully, we were greeted with a friendly smile and shown a seat. We were forewarned that it's quite busy tonight and our food will take a while. No worries, we weren't in any hurry and it's always nice to be told. One strange thing I did notice was that the tables were set out with salt and pepper shakers!

We quickly decided on what we wanted and placed our order of pad Thai with chicken and massamun beef curry (and rice for two). For drinks we had green tea and a drink called just simply "Raspberry" which was just a raspberry flavoured soft drink.

Our food took a while, as noted, and the friendly waitress topped off my tea with more hot water and asked if we'd like any other beverages in the mean time. A nice gesture. After a little longer, the food finally came out. The massumun beef first, followed by the rice a couple of minutes later and then the pad Thai. At first taste, the massumun curry sauce was beautiful and flavoursome. Delicious. However, one downfall was the peanuts used almost seemed like they were salted ones which made some bits extremely salty. The worst part, however, was the quality of the beef used. They seemed like tired, old pieces that had been thawed from the freezer after a month or two. Definitely a let down and you could taste the terrible quality.

The other dish, the pad Thai, was notably different to the number of other ones I've had all around (including Thailand). First, it used thin rice vermicelli noodles and not the thicker pad Thai style noodles. Second, it contained fresh chillies instead of dried (and also had sugar on the side that wasn't mixed in which was quite annoying as it's hard to mix in sugar to a noodle dish that uses vermicelli as the sugar doesn't quite spread out against the sticky noodles). Third, it contained other vegetables like cabbage and carrot, from memory, which I've had experienced in a pad Thai before. Fourth, it did not taste of pad Thai but rather a Chinese noodle stir fry It was obviously missing that tamarind and balance of sweet and salty. And finally, which was the worst, we suspect it contained a very high amount of MSG which would explain the strange, strong umami taste. My friend and I were left feeling quite foul afterwards as you do when you have a lot of MSG.

The servings are large, however and make it decent "value" for money (if you don't mind the food not being authentic and the greatest tasting). Overall, I cannot recommend Siam Garden for its food as it was neither authentic, nor was it of high quality which left you with a smile on your face.

“Give it a chance!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2011

Intially detered by the decor, very outdated. But...cautiously ordered entrees; prawn tom yum & chicken spring rolls...both lovely! Fresh home made spring rolls, very light (not oily), good qualitly fresh prawns in the soup. We ordered two mains, they were both fresh & tasty & generously sized. $3 corkage for one bottle of wine, fantastic! Very affordable (under $50 for 2 entrees/2mains/steamed rice & corkage). Not the most amazing thai food Ive tasted, but certainly a very enjoyable, fresh & affordable meal!. Lovely service.

Decor could do with updating, but the food is absolutely wonderfully, would happily visit again. Good value for money.

“A great find!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2011

I've seen this place for years but it looks a bit odd so I'd never ventured in. Am so glad that I did. The food was really cheap and tasty. We had a tasty mixed entre plate and three fantastic main dishes: a green curry, beef stirfry, and yellow curry. The wine was reasonably priced. The decor and serving crockery is totally outdated which only adds to its charm!
