“Funky vibes and fresh food!”
Reviewed January 19, 2014

Sometimes you just want to sit down, cool off and tuck into a decent meal without all the associated hoi polloi. I felt right at home at Retro Cafe. All I wanted a decent salmon and salad sandwich that didn't break the bank.
They provide options for constructing your own sandwich but don't sting you with the added extra's. The ingredients was fresh and it was the tastiest sandwich I'd had in a long time.
The milkshakes are super thick and sweet and was a welcome treat during the heat wave.
Just interacting with the staff was a pleasure. Everyone was jovial; even during the lunch rush when the waitress was run off her feet, she still smiled and greeted customers warmly. Given that Salamanca is a tourist strip, Retro cafe can certainly hold its own.

Great atmosphere, super friendly staff and affordable. Outdoor seating is perfect when you want to enjoy the good weather, and even better given the location at the top of Salamanca Place.

“Best in Salamanca”
Reviewed January 19, 2014 via mobile

Walked past several times because all the outside tables were full...finally had an early breakfast and wish we had made the effort 3 days ago. Try the New York Bagel, eggs n ham, roasted tomato...and Mum's relish!

“Quirky cafe that is a landmark”
Reviewed January 2, 2014

Aimed initially at alternative lifestyle customers with recycled furniture that didn't match, a lot of vegan and vegetarian items on their menu. It was their great location and good coffee that were the drawing cards for everybody to make this a local favourite.

All of the food, and condiments are made on premise and the coffee is usually very good.

There are limited tables both inside and outside which are normally taken so there can be a wait. Remember the golden rule, if you have to wait there is usually a good reason for it.

Be aware during the Christmas new year break there will be a number of days they are closed but worth finding out when they are open and experience their hospitality.

“Very Happy”
Reviewed December 4, 2013

We stopped for a coffee and brunch and were not disappointed. The coffee was just right and the raisin toast was as good as you could ask. Fresh juice and yoghurt museli were given the thumbs up by my wife. The only complaint is that we had two people serving us which ended in the them forgetting the juice until we reminded them.
