Description: Jill & George Mure opened Tasmania's first licensed seafood restaurant, Mures Fish House, in 1973 in Hobart. When they struggled to source quality, fresh, local seafood, George went fishing. More than 40 years on, now owned by Will & Jude Mure, Mures remains a favourite of locals and visitors alike, located in Hobart's working fishing port at Victoria Dock. Mures' philosophy of fresh Australian seafood, sourced from sustainably managed fisheries still rings true from the ocean to the plate. With an international reputation for Tasmania's world class seafood, Upper Deck is the ultimate seafood experience in Hobart.Enjoy expansive dockside views and a la carte dishes, often changing daily with the freshest catch, featuring the finest seafood and very best local produce. Perfectly complement your meal with their award-winning exclusively Tasmanian wine list. Reservations are recommended. Upper Deck specialises in functions from private dining for small groups to large corporate events and are experienced in tailoring an event to suit your needs.

We asked a Tassie chef we met in Mount Field on our travels round Tasmania to recommend a restaurant in Hobart. He recommended Mures and we weren't disappointed. The service was friendly and efficient from the bar to table. The restaurant overlooks the harbour, which is an added bonus. When we were there it was busy, but the tables were spread spaciously so we didn't feel cramped. The food matched the service. in being excellent. It wasn't cheap but then it was fine dining, but with good sized portions, excellent service and a good wine list so we felt it well worth the cost

Mures promises much but sadly does not deliver. The menu of premium priced seafood talks of medium cooked fish to preserve its flavour and moisture but the reality is that the dishes are designed by someone who does not understand the subtlety of good fresh fish and sadly cannot cook it to meet the promise. A whole baby pink snapper arrives slathered in pesto and overcoooked. The catch of flathead sits on a bed of strongly flavoured pumpkin and is again overcooked. Bread is forgotten. A good chef with attention to detail is required here. Mures seems to be churning out food without much regard for showcasing the seafood that is known for. It's not cheap and frankly a good search of trip advisor will yield more interesting food and better value.

Great location and menu attracted us to dinner. Food was very slow to be served and was very average for what we had expected. A disappointment.

Another guest in our hotel recommended this place, and it was a good recommendation. We did not check Tripadvisor first, otherwise we most likely would not have gone there.

The place is fairly large and service is professional and efficient. We had the seafood platter for two and we were surprised: all the fish was very fresh, the different dishes had all their own taste and were very well prepared (not overcooked, nice presentation).
It is not a fancy fine dining place, but i would go back for the food any time. Prices were very reasonable for the quality.

Years ago, I thought it was a special treat to come here.
I think though that food in Tasmania has moved on and I'm not sure that Mures has - still nice to enjoy a leisurely lunch but it doesn't stand out for food alone.
