Planned to stay in tas for 2 weeks. Found a job easily and ended up there for 3 months. Stayed in one of the other hostels for a couple of nights but I prefer a place with hot water and more than 6 people.

The whole frog team including baloo the dog are extremely friendly and more than happy to help. As for lack of sleep I was in a 12 bed dorm the whole time and the worst I suffered was a room shaking snorer for 2 nights. But it's a hostel so you expect it.

Always see cleaners around in the morning and night. Cheapest place I found around town. Decent cheap bar more importantly and 10 min walk from shop and pubs.

It's not a party hostel as most people told me its just a popular place. Would recommend to anyone and will be back for sure.

I had a great time here at the Pickled Frog! The staff are all awesome Tommy, Em, Jimmy and Sen are so friendly and helpful! Always willing to share information and advise on booking tours etc. There is a nice TV lounge where everyone can relax and interact. Baloo the dog is also cool :) Its a really good place to use as a base to venture off to the other parts of Tas on day tours to really take in what the state has to offer. Good vibe and as a backpacker i advise a stay here if you are in Hobart :)

Apparently this is Tasmania's best backpackers...I'd hate to see its worst. The facilities were adequate but not particularly clean and clearly in need of a bit of TLC. The staff were friendly enough however. I paid $45 AUD a night for a small single room.

The biggest drawback with the place is that it was extremely noisy. Its unrealistic to expect monastic silence in a backpackers but there was a lot of noise from people drinking in the downstairs lounge until late, and no staff present after 10 pm to really keep a lid on it. The place is big old and echoey, the walls are very thin and the noise from the lounge just flows straight upstairs to where the dorms are. Added to this was noisy plumbing and people clomping up and down the stairs and corridors all night. I barely slept a wink the two nights I was there. There was also no hot water the morning I left which was just what I needed after a poor sleep.

Those negatives aside, the location is convenient with just a short walk downtown and plenty of dining options nearby. The bar also had reasonably cheap beer and good coffee. I would not stay here again however (even with earplugs) it was just a really bad experience.

Room Tip: Try and get a room away from the stairwell
