Colin has brought a wealth of performance experience to this wonderfully entertaining tour. I would recommend it highly to both visitors and locals alike, as you discover human stories and little known historical facts about the old buildings that make up the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. The characters Colin brings to life are 'real' and believable - all done with some minimal costume changes and great accents! This is the only way to get beyond the areas that are usually accessible to the public - and to discover some wonderful hidden treasures that are a part of the buildings. Combine the tour with checking out the rest of the museum and a coffee/snack in the courtyard and you will have had a thoroughly enjoyable, and relatively inexpensive, time at TMAG. Note that the tour itself is of one hour's duration.

On this strolling player tour we got to see places not usually accessible to the public. A great way to learn more of Hobart's early history. Thank goodness not everything got pulled down for modern developments.

We were fortunate to find this tour as it made the history of the early colonial buildings around the Museum, come to life. Instead of the usual historic spiel, Colin became the character of a convict gardener, a Federation builder, a secretary to the Lt Governor or an escaped convict.. After a quick distraction, by the time you turn back to him, you find a new character emerge, just by simple changes to his costume. It is so much fun that you start to also play the role, believing you are part of the era. Definitely do not miss this tour. It is the best we have experienced here and in Europe. Thank you Colin for giving us such an entertaining and informative morning.

What a fabulous journey back in time we were taken on by the wonderful stories and characters portrayed by the thoroughly entertaining Colin Dean. What is revealed on this journey are a series of little known 'secrets' about Hobart's early history and some of the decisions made in those early days of settlement that would affect the future development of the city. This is not just someone giving you a history lesson but rather an entertaining theatrical production where Colin assumes the role of the early characters that shaped some of Hobart's early history through various voice and costume changes.
10 out of 10, thank you Mr Dean.

Actor Colin Dean gives a brilliant performance for visitors to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. He cleverly switches in and out of a number of characters. His performance exemplifies his theatric professionalism and he brings insight and wit, luring the viewer into another time with great effect. A MUST SEE if you want to learn about the heritage of the buildings that make up the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery complex and be party to secrets, gossip and factual information delivered in a memorable manner.
