Great motel proudly from yesteryear Rooms are spacious, clean, quiet and with comfortable beds. Located within walking distance of central Hobart though the uphill walk back is a bit of a killer. The Italian restaurant around the corner is good value as is the Cambodian "VANNY'S" at 181 Liverpool st.

Stayed in Mayfair on Cavell for a few nights. The location is OK, perched high on Cavell Street overlooking Hobart (about a 10 minute walk to downtown). Also, because the main Motel area of the Mayfair looks like an extension to what was once was a large, elegant home, it is unfortunate that none of the Motel rooms has the advantage of the views. Instead, the rooms were rather dark and sombre with antiquated furniture and, oddly, carpeted walls (probably to keep noise levels down). However, the rooms are large and comfortable. They offer Cable TV but they do not offer good value breakfasts compared to other Motels we have stayed in. There's not much in the way of restaurants nearby but there is a corner shop (expensive) from which you can purchase breakfast provisions if desired. I would give it a 3 star rating as Mediocre to Average.

This place is a gem in West Hobart located high above the city. From the moment we checked in we were made to feel comfortable and that nothing was too much trouble.
The room is like it is trapped in a time warp but is was so comfortable with everything we needed for a nights stay. The room was also very clean.
Be sure to visit the Italian resturant around the corner but book as very popular.

The location of the hotel is really good, especially if you don't mind walking up steeps hills! It is set in a quiet suburban street with good city views and easy access to the city and nearby Mt Wellington. There is also plenty of parking available.

I knew when I booked this hotel that it was advertised as 'charming and old fashioned', but nothing ever prepares me for carpeted walls... There was even another pattern of carpet covering the inside of the wardrobe!! We also had a plastic 80's radio cassette built into the headboard which was hilarious! Apparently this hotel used to be a local dignitaries old house which makes the décor make sense!

Forgetting the 'quirks' of this place, we had a large bright room with a huge tv and additional fridge, toaster, VCR and microwave, so if you need to self cater it is possible here. Breakfast via room service is also available. The bathroom appeared new, very clean and the shower was lovely and powerful.

Overall i think it may be a little overpriced for the standard and surburban location but in a state capital hotels always are!

We stayed in the 2 bedroom units at the back, it is an old house that was divided. It is high up on the hill so you have a great view. Plenty of space to unpack and spread out. We (2 adults & 2 children) stayed for 5 days and it was a great base, it felt like we were coming "home" each day. It has a nice little kitchen for meals. It has older style furnishings but was very clean and tidy. I would stay again.
