Stayed there 4 days at the beginning and 2 days at the end of a 2 week Tassy driving holiday.Location pretty close to CBD without the noise. Bus stop to city centre outside hotel, pub and bottle shop around the corner.Hobart is hilly so this hotel is up on a hill with awesome views. If you want quiet go upstairs, but be aware no lifts . This hotel is a bit of a trek up steep roads so be sure you have a car. Yes the decore is dated... so what.... I found the rooms to be big and cleaning everyday was immaculate. Friendly staff and I originally only booked the first 4 days but returned. My bed was fine but I feel lugging suitcases upstairs was a bit of a challenge.

Room Tip: Upstairs quieter you don't hear the cars.Halfway down the passage in the new blocks even quieter...

We stayed at the Mayfair on Cavell on 2 occasions in November. Both stays were for 2 nights. The rooms were clean and roomy and the staff efficient and friendly. The motel is close to the CBD and the Salamanca precinct. We had a top floor room for our first stay and a ground floor room the second time. The top floor is a better option although we didn't have a problem with either.

Room Tip: Top floor is better and has nice views.

We stayed in one of the bessa block standard rooms on the ground floor, where you heard everyone coming down the stairs and getting ready to leave in their cars.

While it is inexpensive compared to other accommodation, you get what you pay for - very dated furnishings, old double bed where you move every time your partner moves. The water pressure was ok, until someone else in the venue turned their water on, and we ended up with not much more than a dribble.

House cleaning just seem to pull up the bedspread versus actually making the bed. Also, we did not appreciate house cleaning entering the room and then announcing ‘house cleaning’, surely they should knock before letting themselves into a guest's room!

Not a place we will be returning to.

We stayed here for three nights recently. If you feel like stepping back in time to 1968 then this is the place for you. The furnishings and bedding were straight out of the 1960s..clean and presentable just dated. The shower pressure was terrific and the bed was comfortable. The only negative was that it's right at the top of a steep hill ,so while having sensational views it was a steep climb from Salamanca place after dinner.

My room did not look like the pictures. It was very old, in need of an upgrade and very dated. The room was musty and dusty though was cleaned after a complaint. The bathroom was adequate though there were no drawers and only found the hair dryer after some searching. Fan didn't work.
The staff tried to be helpful at times though could have been more so. I think there is much better value in Hobart.

Rooms are musty and a bit run down, but comfortable and spacious all the same. Ok for one night stay, as we were there new years eve and everything was very expensive. Shower was hot and water at a good pressure.

The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. They fixed a small problem quickly and were great about helping us out when we had requests (taxi, ice, luggage storage, et cetera). The location provides a nice view of the town. The beds were comfortable and it was clean and quiet. Sleep was easy to come by. It is on top of a steep hill so if you don't have a car, be prepared for a little walk. There is no wifi included, but you can order it if you want it.
