Attraction details
Owner description: Louisa's Walk is a piece of Strolling Theatre or Walking Play that takes you on a journey into the life of Louisa Ragan, an Irish convict, sent to Van Diemen's Land on a seven year sentence, in 1841, for stealing a loaf of bread. You walk with the actors as they tell Louisa's story. You will meet Louisa outside the famous Cascade Brewery building in South Hobart. You will walk through the beautiful Cascade Gardens along to the World Heritage listed Cascades Female Factory Historic Site where Louisa was imprisoned. Once you enter those locked gates, they are shut behind you and you experience life in this harsh prison. You may laugh and you may cry but you will remember Louisa's story!

“Terrific intro to Australia's convict history”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

This was a first-day activity for us on a month-long stay in Australia and it was the perfect introduction to the country's history. Judith and Chris have crafted an informative and entertaining show that captures the horrors to which these women were subjected -- harsh punishment for trivial crimes, transportation, separation from children, much abuse in the prison system -- and the sometimes happy outcomes at the end of their prison terms. A graphic and gripping show that taught us much. Don't miss it.

“If you want to feel history do this walk”
Reviewed March 29, 2014

I was unsure at first as this was not a traditional tour but very soon we were drawn into Louisa's story. For days after I dreamt and thought of Louisa as if she were a person who I knew personally. When Louisa looked at me with tears in her eyes and said she was not going to see her sons again, I wanted to hug her. I was very moved by this tour.
