OK, when we first drove up I was a little dubious. Once we walked through the front door I was impressed to say the least. From the staff at reception to the quality of the rooms and the little things like the prices on the mini bar - excellent!
We'll be back!

These apartments are an easy 10 minute walk to Salamanca Place and the CBD. Parking is provided. The apartments are clean and all recently refurbished and far enough from the main road to not be disturbed by traffic. The kitchenette is tiny but very functional. We would certainly stay again.

We stayed for 3 nights with 3 young kids (5y, 3y and 6mths).

Don't judge this hotel on the outside, which gives an outdated impression. We had a 3rd floor family room for about $165. This consisted of two levels! On ground floor a living section and little kitchen, 2nd floor 2 bedrooms and bathroom.
TV with plenty of channels. Fast internet connection in the room. Outstanding to finally find a minibar with normal prices (eg $2 for a coke). Place was clean, modern & quiet. Other comments on Tripadvisor were mentioning noisy. i can't agree. but maybe because we stayed on topfloor (3rd & 4rd).

Location was very good. close to centre & salamanca area. supermarkets closeby as well.

This hotel was best value for money we experienced in our 20day carholiday (returntrip: Sydney - Tasmania).
price/quality: superb.

My boyfriend and I stayed at St Ives for two nights, Friday 17th of September 2010 and Saturday 18th. We were in Hobart for a wedding and after scouring tripadvisor for accommodation I finally settled on this motel based on it's reviews - and I assure you, I wasn't disappointed! :)

For a hotel that had 'no vacancies' (according to the sign) it didn't feel noisy or busy at all. Our room was pretty quiet and even street noise was very minimal (we were on the carpark side, on the first floor). We stayed in the "imperial" apartment and it was very nice. The room is quite intelligently set out, with a nice, well equipped kitchenette at one end and the bed at the other. Between these you have two armchairs (super comfy), a small dining table, a desk and a huge flatscreen tv mounted on the wall with a bracket that lets you change its facing direction (this came in very handy as it meant we could watch tv from pretty much anywhere in the room).

The bathroom is positioned (in our case) just on the right as you enter the room, with the wardrobe to your left. The bathroom was quite nice & modern, but we had three complaints - it was quite cold, the toilet roll was too far from the toilet to be comfortably reached and the shower doesn't have a door, so the water can come out into the rest of the bathroom quite easily. Also we had a difficult time getting the temperature for the shower correct - there almost seemed to be a delay between turning a tap and having the temperature change.

That said, these are most definitely not deal breakers and I would still recommend this motel to anyone and everyone.

The continental breakfast was excellent - for $3 we got 2 pieces of bread for toasting, a small bottle of milk, a packet of cereal and whatever spreads we wanted for the bread. It was all quite generous - we ended up only using some of the items for breakfast and made sandwiches for lunch with the remainder. Extremely good value! :) The mini bar was also amazingly priced - cheaper than the supermarket down the road!

While the views outside our window were nothing to write home about, they definitely weren't bad - you were looking over the carpark and out to the hills beyond. There are no other tall buildings nearby to obscure the view or make you feel like you're looking into other people's houses. So it was really quite relaxing.

The bed was very comfy and we slept quite well both nights. The first night we were a little hot, but that was probably because we went overboard with the in-room heating and forgot to turn it off. The hotel is within walking distance of restaurants, fast food places and a supermarket. The parking is in a private carpark sort of at the back of the hotel. Also there is a bottle shop attached to the building but although this was busy on the friday night, we didn't hear anything coming from it in our room.

So all in all, an excellent stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Hobart. It is a very solid 4 stars and amazing value for money.

We stayed for 3 nights in early September 2010 and were located in a first floor room.

The Motel appeared to have been recently renovated. The room was very modern, large and comfortably furnished. The bed was probably the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept in.

The motel location is great, walking distance from Salamanca Place and the markets on Saturdays as well as Constitution Dock and for that matter the CBD. We found the parking to be nearly full most evenings but we always managed to get a spot.

The outlook from the first level wasn't anything to write home about, I can't say if the higher levels give any views of the city or harbour.

We found the room rates very pleasing and the staff were helpful in giving directions to various locations.

Overall, a very pleasant stay. We would definitely consider St Ives Motel Apartments again.

Just back from a long weekend with my mum & teenage nephew. Booked with St Ives Hotel directly & received a great rate. Our room had a queen size & single bed. Rooms have been updated & I found them to be a good size for the 3 of us with good features - flat screen tv on wall, small kitchenette & good size modern bathroom.
The prices in the mini bar were really great - $1.50 for a can of drink, $2.50 for a stubbie of boags beer, $1.50 for twisties & chips etc. I have never seen these sort of prices in a hotel mini bar before in my travels. Continental b/fast at $3.00 per head. I took my own self cater b/fast but next time wouldnt bother with prices like this.
They also provided complimentary toiletries at reception - my nephew forgot his toothbrush & we got a full size toothbrush - very good service.
It is in a really good location with plenty of eating out options in Battery Point. There is also 2 large Supermarkets 5 min drive down Sandy Bay Rd in case you want some provisions.
The only complaint I would have is that our room faced St. Georges Rd & I could hear a bit of traffic noise along it but it wasnt too bad.
I would certainly stay at St Ives again.

Enjoyed an overnight stay. Would like to have stayed longer. Continental breakfast $3 each ( you make in your room) is outstanding value. Would stay again.
