We stayed at this lovely little hotel at the end of a six-week trip to Oz. For comparison, we had stayed at the Richardson in Perth (excellent), Hilton in Cairns (very good), the Byron at Byron Bay (brilliant), the Radisson SAS in Sydney (rubbish) and then onto Hobart. We normally stay in the larger type of hotel so were a little concerned that this booking would be a mistake - how wrong we were to even consider that!!!

We were given a well-decorated and comfortable garden room with outdoor seating overlooking the garden. The bathroom had a large spa bath. The facilities were great and the place was spotlessly clean and tidy. Breakfasts were inventive and tasty. The owners are a delightful couple who were very friendly and helpful whenever asked but did not intrude if you wanted privacy - the perfect combination! We were also very touched by the lovely parting gift of fancy toiletries, not to mention the champagne which was kindly left for us with compliments. And did I mention the homemade cake? A lovely and genuine couple who made our stay perfect!

We found the location absolutely fine as it was easily accessible by car, and within close proximity to restaurants, banks, laundrette, supermarkets etc. We also found it an excellent base to be able to go and explore this lovely island.

We're hoping to make it down again sometime and will definitely make sure we book up the Clydesdale again.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Clydesdale Manor for a long weekend. When we drew up in the cab I was a little disappointed as the B&B is on a seemingly busy road and the area isn't as nice as others (battery point) but once you're through the door its like you're a million miles away from civilisation. Also if you turn the corner you get to the waterfront and a lovely walk up to Battery Point.

Wayne is lovely! So friendly and helpful.
The room was fab, we had a little balcony looking over the backgarden, nice big bed in which we slept like babies. A huge spa which took an eon to fill but was great.

The room comes with a TV with cable but very limited channels, DVD player (and library) would be great.

Breakfasts were huge and sumptuous, I'm a vegetarian and Wayne went out of the way to make something special. The breakfast room was very quiet! No one spoke, which was a bit uncomfortable.

The lounge room is great too, lots of CDs (Shame about the Rod Steward) magazines, Sherry and chocolates.

Over all i would say
- Lovely, clean, oldy world, cosy, amazing food, friendly owners.
- Great breakfasts but by taking the B&B option you do miss out on the opportunity to try out local cafes.
- Maybe more for slightly older couples.

  • Liked — The staff, the room, the food
  • Disliked — Location,
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't go for the spa room unless you're really spa crazy

We recently stayed in the spa suite. There is no doubt that Clydesdale Manor is a beautiful building. We loved the spacious room and high ceilings and our private balcony. The interior decorating is very tasteful. However, I have to agree with a couple of the other reviews in that there is a definite lack of flexibility. I did not personally mind having to fill in a breakfast menu the day before, and determine what time I wanted to have breakast (4 quarter hourly options between 8 and 9), but this could be a problem if you have an early flight for instance, as the breakfast definitely adds to the price of this accommodation and if you miss out you are paying a lot more than you should. Other reviewers also mentioned the inflexibility of choice for breakfast, as there is only one hot dish. When I realised that I would not be able to eat the following day's offering due to a food allergy, I asked Wayne if he could possibly provide me with an egg. Not fussed about how it was cooked, I just wanted something a little more substantial than cereal. This was met with an immediate refusal as the menus are made up 1 week in advance and they couldn't possibly cater for me. We decided to leave a day early, and I have to say in all fairness there was no problem with having to pay for the room even though it had been booked. Wayne did offer me an alternative (pancakes - they definitely have something against eggs) but this didn't happen until we were seated at the breakfast table the next day. Quite honestly, I could not understand this attitude. I have tried to be as fair as possible with this review, but I feel it is a matter which should be considered when deciding whether to stay here. We choose Bed and Breakfasts because they usually provide some degree of individual attention, but in this case we would have been better off in a hotel.

  • Liked — Locality and size of room
  • Disliked — Inability to accommodate special needs
  • Tips/Secrets — If you have food allergies, check before you go and don't presume basic breakfast fare.

I recently enjoyed 5 evening at Clydesdale Manor and can recommend it to Trip Advisor members without reservation.

The hosts, Wayne and Lynne, are top drawer and are 2 of the most professional and hospitable hosts I have ever encountered.

My room was known as the Wellington Room and was very generous in size. Accessories included a large TV, CD player, sound system and very comfortable leather tub chairs. This was a great room to relax in.!

Breakfasts were among the best I have ever experienced at any establishment and varied each morning.

Clydesdale Manor certainly deserves its 4.5 star rating and the numerous awards that have been bestowed upon both the manor and the hosts.

During our visit "down under" to Australia (we are from Washington) we took time out to fly to Hobart for a 4 day break and booked lodgings at Clydesdale Manor in Hobart.

At the outset I should say that I am suprised that Trip Advisor do not offer accommodation deals for this
property and would suggest that they contact this premium operation and rectify this oversight.

We stayed in a Wellington Room which was quite large and had a wonderful queen sized bed, great leather tub chairs, CD system and television. We could not have asked for anything more.

The room, on the first floor, looked out at Mount Wellington (hence the room name) so each day we awoke to a great view of the snow capped mountain and had the pleasure of also seeing some fantastic sunsets.

As you do in a B&B we relished the oportunity to chat to other guests both over breakfast in the delighful Breakfast Room and while enjoying the roaring fire in the Guest Lounge and it did not suprise us that most guests had stayed at this manor previously. There is something quite enchanting about Clydesdale Manor.

Lynne and Wayne are remarkable hosts and treat you as family but have the ability to know when to discretly withdraw and leave you in peace.

When asked they took the time to develop touring programs as well as provide recommendations about where to eat and where not to eat.

Breakfasts were a highlight and we can say the breakfasts were easily the best that we had in all the 3 weeks we were in Australia. Each day after enjoying a buffet style offering of cereals, juice, homemade bircher muesli, yoghurt, teas, coffees, toasts, we were treated to a different "hot offering" and over the 4 days this ranged from Lemon Souffle Cakes with mixed berries, Ham and Egg Parcels with plum sauce, Smoked Trout Frittatas with a Pinot Noir, Juniper and Allspice sauce, Cinnamon French Toast with macerated strawberries.

If you enjoy quality surroundings, discrete and warm hosts, delcious and imaginative breakfasts then we can unreservedly recommend this delighful property.

Following the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne we travelled to Tasmania for a 4 day break.

Clydesdale Manor in Hobart was our base.

Having experienced many styles of accommodation over the years we must say that this particular establishment ranks up there with the very best that we have encountered.

The manor is grand in proportion and the hosts have gathered a most interesting array of quality antiques which are showcased throughout the hotel. The ensuite bathrooms are adequate and the bedrooms and common areas are heated. This was a bonus as it snowed while we were there and to come back to a roaring fire and enjoy complimentary freshly baked muffins was an absolute treat and indicitative of the little extras that you can expect.

Breakfast is an absolute delight and we were very pleasantly suprised by both the presentation and selection that was provided daily.

We can recommend Clydesdale Manor without hesitation as a quality hotel.

While in Tasmania recently we stayed at Clydesdale Manor in Sandy Bay.

This multi-award winning establishment is without doubt the BEST B&B experience we have ever encountered and both the manor and the hosts Lynne and Wayne should be enshrined permanently on the list of Tasmanian Treasures.

For those that have preconceived ideas about B&B's being run by retirees who offer a room in their home and with shared facilities please allow me to quickly dispell this. Clydesdale Manor would rank amongst the most professional accommodation establishments in Australia. Lynne and Wayne are ex-Sydney professionals who are articulate and have an in-depth knowledege of Hobart and indeed Tasmania, based on a love for the island going back some 20 years.

If you are heading to Hobart hopefully you too will be able to enjoy the experience that they offer. You should be aware that it would be wise to book ahead especially from now until Easter as this is the peak period in Tasmania.

Be sure to enjoy this majestic island and be certain to stay at least one night with Lynne and Wayne at Clydesdale Manor and please pat "Dombey" their gorgeous old english sheepdog who most certainly was also born to the manor.
