We stayed for 4 nights. The room was clean and comfortable, the staff were all friendly and helpful and the couple of meals we had in the restaurant were lovely. The buffet breakfast was great value. Easy walking distance to tours in Hobart and to shopping.

We stayed 4 nights on the 5th floor and we were absolutely delighted. The room (512) was beautiful, the staff went out of their way to be helpful and the Restaurant staff could not have been more obliging. We had a fabulous stay and would be delighted to go back.

We stayed for two nights, having been booked for one and finding it comfortable enough to stay on. The staff (most of them) were helpful and we have no complaints about the room.

The room was an "executive suite", but not sure what that meant as it had a bed, a chair and a bathroom. Any lower standard would have to be minuscule. Maybe it was the decor, which was hotel standard.

The bed was comfortable and clean, no problems with noise (floor 5) and the location handy to everything. The communal areas were certainly a bit run down and we avoided the cafe after the first morning's breakfast. This is certainly a base for operations rather than a destination in itself however we were happy enough.

Room/floor was supposed to be a 'non-smoking' area but one guest repeatedly stood outside his door smoking so that it filled the corridor (level 5). Reception not interested.
Toilet area needed cleaning and noisy pub opposite kept us awake. Door swipe card failed 3 times (we stayed 3 nights) and we wouldn't use the cafe because of poker machines on ground floor.
Good location but not worth the price.

My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights at the beginning of May 2008. We stayed in room 310 (3rd floor). The room had a queen bed and was a good size for just the two of us. The major issue with this hotel is that you can hear the people in the room next door going to the toilet and taking a shower. The plumbing is very loud and the sound goes right through the walls. We could also hear people moving luggage around in the next room. We didn't hear conversations or anything but the plumbing and moving of items kept me awake for the better part of the two nights that we stayed here. The reason we chose to stay at this hotel is that it was recommended to us by my partner's parents - they said that they had no problems with noise, and that they stayed on level 6. Perhaps it would have ben bettr for us to stay on an upper level and we maybe wouldn't have had so much noise. On the plus side, this hotel is pretty cheap, the rooms are comfortable and they have on-site parking and there is a reasonable Irish pub straight across the road. I would recommend the hotel to someone just travelling through and staying for one night.

We (grandmother, daughter and 7 year old granddaughter) stayed at the Mid City Hotel for two separate nights. For the first night (Friday) the room was small and the decor was dated. We weren't too fussed by that but were extremely disappointed that it wasn't clean. The bathroom had mould on the tiles, the towels were well past their use by date (stained and shredded) and when daughter and granddaughter crawled into bed they found a hairclip! For the second night (Sunday) we had booked a family room. This turned out to be just as bad. It may have been a foot or two longer and had another bed, but the bedspread was ripped and it too was old and tired. As a treat for the granddaughter we ordered room service. After waiting an hour we called again (no answer) and then called reception who told us that during peak times there were delays in the kitchen. Fair enough but couldn't they have told us that when we ordered ("I'm sorry but there will be a delay of 1 hour before you can hope to get your meal. You have also ordered from the childrens menu, be prepared to be nagged until the meal arrives.) Yes, after an hour and 10 minutes the meal did arrive, but it was not freshly prepared. We think it was made in the first 15 minutes and then sat waiting to be delivered for the last 55 minutes. It was cold, overpriced and late. When we discussed this with the hotel, they waived the $4.00 room service fee! Extremely disappointing. Don't waste your money!
