This little museum is right on the waterfront in Hobart and is very well worth the admission. Spent an interesting 45 minutes reading all the info and displays and talking to the helpful volunteers. So much I did not know about this part of our history and what they achieved is amazing considering it was over 100 years ago. Really enjoyed this little gem.

A brilliant exhibition lined up around the walls of the building culminating in a replica of the interior of the original hut in the centre The photographs, relics and hut interior brings the experience alive in your mind- a traditional presentation but very effective.

Didn't know much about Mawsons Explorations prior to visit. Amazing man. Prompted me to find the book detailing his expedition to the Antarctic. By visiting the replica you fund the preservation of his original hut in the Antarctic.

It may be a small museum but it provides a significant insight into Mawson's expedition with the various original artifacts, recorded anecdotes, and pictures as well as biographies of the members of the team. So many joined up for the Great War immediately on their return.
We were lucky to have two Antarctic veterans present to add real experiences of the terrain and conditions Mawson's group encountered - fascinating comparisons of clothing and other equipment. Interesting information about the dogs used and their individual characters!
Wish I had seen the hut model in the main Museum before visiting the replica but such is life.
