We booked a secret mystery deal on line and knew it was going to be one of the two main hotels in Hobart located near the water,it turned out to be Wrest Point but it was a little misleading in the respect we didnt know about the different accomodation wings at this hotel and we were a touch dissappointed to be shown to a room in Waters Edge, not the tower. However we did have water views and while the rooms are not as modern as newer hotels(although the bathrooms have been nicely updated) the room was spotlessly clean and serviced daily, fresh towels extra pillows and blankets and a very comfortable bed made it more than satisfactory. The staff here are the friendliest and most helpful and it made our stay most enjoyable.Plenty of locations to dine or grab a coffee or nightcap.Whilst we dined around Hobart the couple of meals we had were reasonably priced and there was enough variety.

Room Tip: Stipulate your level of accomadation.

We had booked in here for six nights in a Water's Edge room - didn't realise the hotel was sixty years old so paid extra to stay in the Casino itself - when booking this wasn't made clear that the "water's edge" are tacked onto the Casino. The paint colour in the casino room was ghastly - hard to believe that even when it was painted it could have been in fashion - would give you nightmares. Stayed for six nights and had to request a change of linen! motels are serviced better than this. Had a couple of meals in the Loft and it was just so so. My husband's T-bone was great but the room lacked any atmosphere whatsoever. the best part of staying at the casino was the staff all of whom were very approachable. Would not stay here again as it is quite a bit out of the town and not close to anything in particular unless you want to play the pokies!

Our first visit to Tasmania and this was our last place to stay for 2 nights. We had a room on the 14th floor overlooking the car park and the marina. We were absolutely delighted with the position of our room giving us fantastic panoramic views. Everything was beautifully clean and the decor was in keeping with the style of the hotel. The bed was comfortable and generous and the dual air con system was very quiet, always a bonus! Provisions of coffee, tea, etc was adequate as were the bathroom essentials each replenished on the 2nd day. We also had a full breakfast in the Cafe and dinner in the Loft Bistro, be prepared to wait for your meal here as it gets very busy. The Pier 1 bar and restaurant was situated so visitors can see the sea. We found all the food to be of a good standard and the staff everywhere were polite, helpful and friendly. if we were to visit Hobart again we would definitely choose to have the same accommodation. We were not interested in he Casino itself although we couldn't help but take a peek and walk through. It all looked very professional and people who were using these facilities appeared to be concentrating on the task in hand. It was amazingly quiet. Overall a very good experience.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the tower with water front view. We had booked through a travel agent and he had...

Nice room, lovely colours with south beach water view and easy access to waterside garden. Windows opened right out for fresh air, 2-way air-con worked well. Room clean enough although when I moved the bed to find a dropped earring I found lots of dust & a dead skink. Bathroom was tiny but plenty of towels replaced daily. Queen bed mattress not so new, a bit depressed on one side - fortunately I slept alone so was able to move across to other side of bed. I developed a cold whilst there (8 days) and staff were wonderful, supplying me with cough lollies and checking that I had enough tissues and whether I needed extra help from them. Other features of this hotel made up for anything lacking with the room. Local bus and Hop on/Hop off bus stopped at the door; 10 minute walk to local shopping centre with everything including lots of restaurants.

Sheets are nice and the curtains good quality. Nice view. Tea and coffee equipment is available with a small fridge. Bathroom is tiny. Housekeeping is not good. A lift was out of order. Far from anything touristy so you need a car or take the local bus which is right outside. Get a $5 day ticket.

My husband and I spent a week at Wrest Point while following the Clipper Round the World yachts' progress in the Rolex Sydney Hobart race. I had expected to have a better view of the finishing line area (off Castray Esplanade) but instead our room overlooked the little beach to the south of the hotel. Perhaps the Tower rooms were not available when I booked and they more be more expensive. Our daughter stayed in the adjoining room to us during part of our stay and when we first arrived we were all rather taken aback by the overall tired look of the access from the lobby. The corridor décor is dowdy and there's a lingering smell of cigarette smoke. We are not betting folk so the overall ambience of the casino was foreign to us and I found the screens in the restaurants somewhat off-putting. While there were 2 beds in the room, the double is small, not the now more usual "queen" size. On the positive side, every staff member whom we met was very pleasant and helpful. We were very happy to make use of the kettle and toaster to have breakfast in our room most mornings but we also enjoyed meals in the noisy Loft and very nicely situated Pier One restaurants. Breakfast (once) in the Coffee Shop was again noisy but adequate. Adequate (and free) parking is a bonus and access from our Waterside room to the car-park was convenient and we made use of the hose after a drive on a dusty road! Finally, it was good to have free Wifi in our room, though the whole system was down on the morning of our departure - so our bill had to be settled later!

Room Tip: To get the best views of the whole harbour request a room in the tower.

I decided to spend way over my budget to have 2 nights of luxury at this hotel. What a disappointment! The smell of cigarette smoke hit us as soon as we walked in. Our disappointment continued as we entered our room, which had dirty, stained coffee cups; long hair in the bathroom; quality of the TV was poor. Such a shock to us as we had come from a fabulous apartment that was $100 per night cheaper. Never again. Definitely not worth the money.
