The Lady Franklin Gallery in Ancanthe Park in Lena Valley is a beautiful and unique place. Built in 1842 for Lady Franklin (wife of the then Governor), it was named "Ancanthe" and is a miniature Greek temple style building, intended to be a museum. After the departure of the Franklins, it was neglected until 1948 when the Art Society of Tasmania took it over. It is open in the weekends and features interesting art exhibitions. It is also a short drive from an entrance to Wellington Park, where a walking track up Mt Wellington begins, so a picnic and walking boots can make this a dual purpose trip.
It is situated in Lena Valley Road (continuation of Augusta Road) and is only a 10 minute drive from the Hobart CBD. It's well worth a visit.
