Easy to miss this place because it is past the main strip on Salamanca place - but this is a great breakfast - it looks basic but as soon as you read the small menu you will be excited. Fresh local produce - not you basic poached eggs on toast. I can't wait to go back.

Forget eggs on toast, at Castray the breakfasts are a little different. Rosti with bacon or salmon and eggs, or corned beef and bacon fritters, or simply "Breakfast" - yoghurt with poached pears, apple juice, boiled egg, sour dough toast and preserves (great jam - dark cherry and apricot) and coffee. Good value at $18. And the staff were really lovely. They also have yummy house baked muffins - savoury (say cheddar and picililli, or chorizo and feta) and sweet berry or fruit. The coffee is very good and made with care. Very bright location with good outdoor seating. A little out of the way, but worth the trip, if you aren't staying in Salmanca, and a must visit if you are staying locally.

Popped in here for a quick lunch with a friend and it was superb! I had the creme fraiche pie, a coffee - which was perfect (something hard to get in Hobart) - and ginger beer. I opted not to have a glass of wine from their fantastic wine list. The atmosphere was fabulous, the service was outstanding and overall if was excellent. I will definitely be recommending this place to all my friends and family.

Everything was good, nice to eat at a restaurant that has an ethos that respects and showcases Tasmanian produce at good prices. Clever wine list, gives best of Tassie wines without limiting the range and you can pick and try some stuff you don't normally see. All good. Will recommend

The menu sounded really promising, so decided to head here for a workday lunch. I had the beef rib, as did someone else we were dining with, and it was really quite bland and horrible. It tasted, and looked, like boiled lunch meat. Sadly, neither of us enjoyed it. Another person we dined with had the toasted sandwich and nearly cried when it came out because it was so small.

To preempt a comment from management like the one below, I did advise the wait staff that I did not enjoy my meal, but to no effect.
