Attraction details
Owner description: In the heart of Hobart's colourful dock precinct, you will embark on an exclusively Tasmanian wine experience at the Gasworks Cellar Door. With 16 Tasmanian wines always on tasting, a knowledgeable wine expert to guide you through the ever-changing labels, a stylish interior design, and fascinating information about the island's wines and history- this is no ordinary tasting experience. With its sandstone facade and tall brick chimney, it's clear that the Gasworks complex has an industrial past. The cylindrical gasometer tank that once stored coal-gas is gone, but this is the place where coal was burned to generate the gas that lit the streets of Hobart. The Cellar Door itself is located in the original Gasworks head office, where high ceilings, polished Tasmanian oak floors and a sweeping timber staircase reflect the importance of the enterprise from the late 1850s. How it works:- Your guide will introduce each wine in detail, talking about the region, the climate and the winemaking techniques that create each one's special character. To taste your way around the Gasworks Cellar Door, you purchase a tasting card for $10. There are three cards •12 wines (20ml each) •6 wines (40ml each) or, •3 wines (80ml each) The 12-wine card gives you the widest options; while the 3-wines card lets you savour a trio of your choice.

Outstanding attraction in the heart of Hobart showcasing an array of Tasmanian wines from across the various regions. Informative guides educate and entertain you through 16 possible tastings. Very good value and definitely bucket list for those that enjoy a glass or two of wine. Totally recommend.

“A perfect spot to sample a wide range of wines”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2014

For a small fee you can sample a wide range of Tasmanian wines at this venue that is very close to the Hobart water front. The selection is impressive and the information excellent. As well, the atmosphere is laid back - it is a very relaxing way to experience the local wines.

This is an experience! The wine selection is great but the service and knowledge from James is outstanding. It is a must do as a local or visitor to Tassie.

“Too much fun!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

What a lovely spot to taste wine produced in Tasmania. James is both a knowledgable and delightful guide as he "tastes" you through his beautiful state. You can choose to taste either 3, 6, or 12 wines for a tasting fee of $10.00. The smaller number results in a larger pour. We opted for six and received and extra "must try". My daughter and I spent a splendid couple of hours and ended up buying about nine bottles- they ship!

“An informative afternoon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2014

A lovely place. A fantastic selection of Tasmanian wines. Perhaps they are all here? A informative learning experience and tasting given by the 'au courant' wine expert James Horden. A great way to spend an afternoon. Surprises included the Gurvitztraminer, It matched the finest Alsace variety. Thank you
