“Best value in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

This was most certainly the best bakery/cafe we encountered during our recent trip through Sydney, Tasmania, and the North Island of New Zealand. No wonder the place was packed each time we went: the selection of lunch items, pastries, desserts were outstanding, gourmet like, tasty, and surprisingly very reasonable in price. Whereas everyone else, good or bad seemed to charge high prices (compared to Canada), this cafe combined excellent food with friendly and efficient service, as well as reasonable prices. I wish we had one such jewel in our neighbourhood. The best.

“Obviously a popular spot”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2013

We queued for some time for a table, as this was obviously THE place to go for coffee/breakfast/lunch/everything!
Delicious freshly baked bread, good coffee, superb selection of cakes, pies and pastries.
Highly recommend!

“Great brunches in Battery Point”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2013

This must be the most popular cafe in Battery Point.
Crammed full on Sunday morning. Must be a good sign. Food very good and natural (eggs delicious, sourdough well above average, nearly great coffee - Confession I am a Tobys Estate tragic- consistently excellent). Needs to give over some more space at the front door, where it is very congested with people arriving and paying and departing.

“Brain and Belly Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 15, 2013

Some of the J&R flavour combinations are so good they just blow you away. They've got a great range of savoury lunch dishes, terrific breakfast pastries, a great range of breads and the most delicious tarts. And consistently good coffee served by ever-cheerful staff. A big bonus is that they're open at 7:00, so if you're on your way out of town or just want a tasty start to your day - it's brilliant!

“Reminded us of the good old days!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 13, 2013

We stumbled upon this quaint little cafe by chance when strolling from our hotel down to Salamanca and the Harbour during the Wooden Boat Festival weekend. At 9am already a crowd there, happily munching away on croissants, pastries, etc ... good signs!
The staff was very friendly, our waiter recommended the scrambled egg/smoked salmon special, served on fresh puffed pastry ... wow, what a taste explosion! We went back the next morning and had it again :-). Coffee was great, and the atmosphere reminded us of those distant days when we used to hang out in cafe/bistros in Edinburgh. Full marks to the team at Jackman & McRoss !! They make it soooo easy and pleasant to enjoy brekky, or simply reading the paper, or spending time chatting with friends .... we'll be back for sure!
Only question is: when are you opening up in Burnie or on the Northcoast in Tassie? We need such a nice cafe up here!
