Stayed at Customs House early January 2014. Great location right across the road from the Hobart docks and waterfront. Walking distance to CBD, Salamanca, Battery Point and the docks. Includes a great breakfast, bar, restaurant & laundry also on the premises. The room was very comfortable and we enjoyed the heritage of the building. Best of all - we parked right out the front for no charge!

The location of this hotel is excellent as it is right by the waterfront (clue is in the title!) and the rooms are pleasant enough but a bit tired looking and basic. Excellent breakfast included with your stay though so this kind of made up for it. On the downside - there is a nightclub right across the road and on Saturday nights it is banging and booming until after 4am so not very conductive to sleep especially if you are a light sleeper.

As others have said, there is no better location in town for sure. The hotel is in a nice old heritage building.

We stayed in room 9 on the first floor. The room was perhaps not one of the ones they feature in the promo shots, but we weren't there to see the inside of a hotel room. We also did not have any issues with noise in that particular room - the bar 'ambiance' was audible but not intrusive. The trade-off was a magnificent view of the building next door's rooftop airconditoners but you can't have everything :)

Staff were friendly and helpful, the housekeepers lent me a clothes horse when the dryers were busy. The included breakfast was great too, and some good mid-week meal specials in the bar.

We stayed at Customs House during Taste of Tasmania and couldn't have been happier with the location. Perfect proximity to everything you'd want to do in Hobart. Breakfast was include and was great considering it was free.

Obviously you're staying at a pub so expect noise, especially if you get a front room as we did. It didn't worry us as we were out most of the time.

Our room was basic but clean & a good size, we also had a view of the harbour. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Currently sitting in the hotel room on second night of stay here, at 1am listening to deafeningly loud music and yelling from the bar below. Website advertises pleasant place to stay - this is NOT a place to stay unless you want to be awake at all times when the pub is open. No attempt to limit the noise to the rooms, not even a door at the top of the stairs to the rooms.

Rooms are extremely basic, the toilet is a skinny little add on in the corner of the room. Toilet didn't flush properly, just generally a sub standard place.

Check in staff were laughably bad, couldn't care less about not being able to offer the parking as advertised on the website.

You couldn't ask for a better location. From one window we looked over to Salamanca Market & through the other to the waterfront. Slightly dated room & bathroom & the mattress was very hard. All was clean though & the staff cannot be faulted, from reception to restaurant & bar. Very friendly & helpful. Everything is within walking distance. Probably suited to the younger crowds as the bar etc is very popular but a little noisy.

Room Tip: Probably not over the bar.

This hotel is only minutes walk from Salamanca markets and the ferry to Mona. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The only downside is the noise from downstairs especially on Friday and Saturday nights when we stayed, but you have to remember it is a pub with another just up the road. Having said all of that the staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfasts were very good.
