We stayed 2 nights at Somerset on the Pier , what an ideal home base. First the view from your balcony was great, it changed hourly as the weather did.. we had a private show of the sunlight glisenting off the sea and the seagulls dancing in the rain..
The hotel is walking distance to everything.. Great restaurants, historical buildings, the mall and even the information centre...it is all there at your fingertips. Oh and free parking for the guests...

Clean, comfortable and friendly, I would definitely recommend the Somerset...

Room Tip: Nice deli/fresh food shop in Salamanca for your daily supply's ... Premier rooms have the best v...

The highlight of this hotel is its location on the Elizabeth Street Pier. Our room looked straight out onto the harbour. Great views! It is in the hub of the port and a short walk to the Salamanca precinct. Plenty of excellent restaurants within 5 - 10 mins stroll and a couple at the hotels entrance! Check in was seamless and very pleasant. Only small complaint was that we weer not told that wifi was complimentary. This should be outlined as part of the check in process.
Our room was a two bedroom two bathroom apartment directly overlooking the harbour. The apartments are well fitted out, the lounge area spacious enough for two adults with a small table for four, lcd tv and cd player. Small kitchenette with all that you would need for light cooking. Our bathrooms were very clean, good shower pressure and served the purpose. Beds were comfortable, main room had an extra tv. Only small criticism is that the bedrooms are very small as the beds take up nearly all of the available space. The apartments are not cheap but we were more than satisfied! Overall it is a place that is worth considering.

Dear dbfun48,

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your review of your recent stay at Somerset. We are indeed situated on Elizabeth St on the beautiful waterfront and the ideal location to set out and explore Hobart from. You are correct our Wi-Fi is a complimentary service, and we would like to apologise this was not communicated to you upon check-in for you to enjoy. Thank you for also providing feedback to our TripAdvisor community on our unique apartment designs which are loft style; and it is something for travellers to consider when choosing to stay at Somerset on the Pier.

Unfortunately during special events and peak seasons in Hobart, accommodation can become quite pricey. We always make sure we are keeping our room rates in-line with the market during these times, and we encourage guests to book direct with our website www.somerset.com, to ensure you always enjoy the best rate guaranteed as well as access to special offers.

Thank dbfun48, from all the team at Somerset we hope to welcome you back again soon.

Warm regards,

We were on a family holiday and we are very dissapointed. Just the experience staying in the hotel tainted all the nice experience in hobart.

As I said in my previous travel reviews, I travel the world to benchmark hotel services and in the past twelve months i have been to many countries from artic to antartic and have written reviews for hotels as north as iceland and as south as tasmania australia.

The terrible things happened because we had to extend our stay in hobart due to unseen circumstances.

We were staying at somerset in salamanca at first and had all the rooms mixed up. We were given the rooms that is totally different from what we had requested (two single) and double confirmed with the staff via telephone.

Because of the mixed up, they were kind enough make things right by upgrading our rooms (what they said) to a two bed rooms, but when we arrived to the unit, it was a two bed room but only one room was opened and the other was locked. Although the room has a king size bed, i do not understand where the upgrade was when two single is changed to a king size bed.

After talking to the receptionist, they finally changed the room, which i gave them two thumbs up for the courtesy.

Then due to unforseen circumstances, we extended our stay. The hotel was kind enough to let us extended another night in the somerset on salamanca, but the very following night (second night) we have to move to salamanca on the pier with a price different of only 5 dollar a room.

We agreed to this, unfortunately we did not have anything on record and we just trusted on what the recepcionist told us.

After we checked in, they said that the room is 100 dollars more a room for two rooms.

We felt like being trapped because it was already late and there is nothing we can do.

We tried to find the gentleman that told us the original price, yet we were told he was nowhere to be found.

Buyers beware, please make sure you get documented copies of the price quoted on this particular somerset property.

I think somerset and ascot in jakarta and singapore do a lot better services and courtesy

The fact that every time I come to Hobart I stay at Somerset on the Pier says enough. The location is ideal and within walking distance to restaurants and Salamanca markets. Watching the activity on the harbour from the balcony is just wonderful.

We were a group of 3 couples. The motel is as you would imagine right on the pier, close to all shops and walking distance to Salamanca Market and a number of great eateries. The rooms are well equiped and are clean. However I think it's time to rennovate or upgrade the bathrooms. I would have also preferred to know the shower was over the bath. Normally a booking deterrant for us. Having said this we had a very pleasant stay and could not speak more highly of the staff. Exceptional staff who went above and beyond to help us celebrate a birthday. Special thanks to Matthew and Claire. Matthew also assisted us with a car booking.

Room Tip: If you want a balcony you need to request it. Ask for bathroom layout if you do not want a shower a...

Hobart was the start and end of our round-island drive around Tassie, so we wanted to make the first few nights special. Somerset on the Pier was a great place, Right on the water with small boats and large ships right outside the window. Hobart being really compact, it's only a short 3-block walk to the city centre.

The reception is on the ground floor halfway along the pier, with all the rooms being on the 2nd floor. The rooms are numbered 1 to 56, with the room numbers larger than 30 being towards the end of the pier. Others have reviewed about the noise from the dining establishments on the floor below, but we didn't find it a problem. But light sleepers might prefer further down the pier.

T42 was one of the restaurants/cafes downstairs, and they have an arrangement with the hotel to provide breakfast which you can sign credit to your room.

In the room, everything is on the lower floor, with only the bed and cupboard on the upper loft floor. It also means quite a bit of walking up and down the staircase, which fortunately, was well built and did not squeak or creak. The kitchenette was fully equipped, and we cooked some of our meals in the room.

We had an extra bed for a 3rd person which we had already booked earlier, but we were charged separately for this ($50 per night) upon check out. The clerk insisted on the charges even though I showed the booking, but as we needed to travel out early for a long drive, I couldn't stay around until the manager came on duty.

But I did come back to the hotel at the end of our Tas trip a week-plus later to sort it out. After some discussion, they agreed to refund me the amount charged for the extra bed (but not the tax that was already charged also!) By this point I was already up to it, but I didn't really want to spoil the mood of a great holiday.

Room Tip: Room numbers 30 and larger are further than halfway down the pier and away from the restaurants belo...

stayed six nights. Perfect location. Plenty of food choices nearby. View remarkable from either side of the building. Woolies supermarket about ten minute walk away. Mona ferry at your front door. Museum a block away. Saturday Markets two blocks away. My only complaint is open hallways and thin walls which can be a bit noisey at times. No real noise from the restaurants below. We always travel with ear plugs anyway. We expect noise friday and saturday nights anyway but overall the other guests were well behaved. Also the beds could do with updating and the windows could do with a clean but otherwise we would defintely stay here again. We were in the standard apartments with the view of salamanca and mount wellington. Cannot stress how good this location is. I booked this because of the location as i expected it to be raining alot as it is winter time. But the weather was spectacular. Can highly recommend these apartments. Warning. There are steps up to the bedroom. The sofa could also be a sofa bed? Full kitchen, fridge, microwave, sink, washing machine, dryer, bath, shower, a bit small and water went everywhere but did the job. Table, chairs and sofa. Tv. And tv upstairs in bedroom. Upstairs is open loft, mezzainine type. Reception were pleasant and fast check in, though no upgrade offered. Thought we might as paying for six nights.
