Situation excellent overlooking the harbour and near to Salamanca with lots of restaurants nearby.. Very spacious lounge/kitchen fully equipped and good size bathrooms. Unfortunately the bedrooms could have been larger. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

Stayed two nights December 2012. The location is fantastic, right on the pier with all the waterside action (food, drinks, cafe's) and the picturesque Hobart waterfront. Also only 10 mins walk to the Salamanca with the famous Market and bars and dining. This truly is the entertainment centre of Hobart. The Hotel itself is derived from a very well done conversion from dockside sheds. You go up one floor from reception and walk along peaked, skylighted corridors to your room. The room was quite clean, simple and offered all the amenities you could want. Studio style loft up stairs sleeping area provides a 'different' feel to the stay. I would recommend this for a short stay in Hobart.

We enjoyed our stay here over 3 nights from Boxing Day. We managed to time it very well with the first yachts arriving while we were there and had a brilliant view as all the action unfolded. We thought the room layout was quite unique with the bedrooms upstairs. We did find it a little hot upstairs though. We didn't have any noise problems at all and this was something we had read in other reviews. I don't recall actually hearing any other guests or noise from outside but we did find the water pipes very noisy though. The location was fantastic with close walking distance to the Salamanca markets and the city shops. Whilst the rooms say they are serviced I don't believe much was done during out 3 night stay other than to empty the rubbish and I did cringe when I saw one of the cleaners place the rubbish bag on top of the couch while she tied the top of it. The parking was a bit of a nuisance but understandable the time of year we were there. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others and if we are ever back there will stay there again.

Okay, SO... First of all - Silly me for choosing Hobart as my getaway after our wedding. Lets just begin the review that way!

Due to going overseas a few months after the wedding, me and my husband decided to do something low key directly after the big day also! Having been to Sydney and Queensland many times, we felt that something different was needed - and we had never been to Hobart together. Looking at all the hotels in the city - the choice was made between the Henry Jones Art Hotel and Somerset on the pier. We chose Somerset as it had a unique view and was situated directly on the docks. (Something we had not experienced before in all our travels)

As we got to the reception, we were greeted by the receptionist and congratulated on our marriage. (No upgrade? BLeh!) Honeymoon bonus...a box of very ordinary tasting truffles. A box of Favorites from Woolworth's would of been better, let me tell you that!

Now - on to the room.

Room had an 'old' vibe. The bathroom sort of made me uneasy and wasn't the cleanest looking. The bed in the room is situated on the second level which is a nice touch, but something in the bed covers or the couch made both of us INCREDIBLY itchy! Not sure if others have experienced this at Somerset on the Pier - but it really annoyed me.

The balcony view is nice - but the table on the balcony looked dirty and i didn't like eating on it. No nice amenities, no added features to staying at the property and no real great memories made here.

Looking back now, Henry Jones Art hotel is on the opposite side of the dock and i would definitely pay just that little bit extra to stay somewhere 5 star and above Somerset's poor standard. Do not choose this if you want a romantic getaway.

Room Tip: Try a different hotel.

Stayed for an overnight work trip, so not a lot of time to assess the hotel...but... Quite nice building and great location by the water. Not much in the way of parking spaces - but we didn't have any problem parking so they were obviously enough!

Staff were pleasant enough, room was clean, not keen on the dispenser style shower amenities. On the whole it was pretty inoffensive but nothing memorable.
