Rydges Hotel Hobart

Parking excellent, staff were friendly and helpful, the property well locate in peaceful area and close to North Hobart's Restaurant area. Yet it is tired and run down. Basic maintenance is poor. They may be waiting for a refit or re build. If so get on with it. Showers doors slip of tracks, curtains ill fitting, linen old and well worn, hinges and locks worn. In need of a face lift. My room was a superior room. The staff care, but the owners need to have the same enthusiasm.

This hotel has old charm and character. Stayed in the Antique Room. Bed is very comfortable and made up daily. Kitchen facilities all old but clean and working. Only minus I could find was the shower over the bath, which was a bit slippery to get in and out of, with not many rails to help. Staff we friendly and very helpful. Good food and coffee for breakfast. I had this in the dining room you could order it in your room, but I chose not to. I loved siting outside for breakfast in the sun. There is a bar and dinner available. This I would all highly recommend to. Food is fab!

There was not much that was very "Presidential" about the Presidential Suite.

The antique furniture seemed to extend right through to the mattress that felt like it had been in use since the room was built. The kitchenette and bathroom were badly dated and in desperate need of a renovation. The carpet looks like it was laid by a 5 year old who didn't realise that it should be flat throughout the room instead of have ripples every metre or so.A number of the globes in the lights were blown and had not been replaced. The curtains even had holes in them.

I recognise that the Heritage nature of the building must present a number of challenges for the management in carrying out various upgrades and maintenance but my strongest recommendation is that you need to work out how to deliver a great experience in an historic building starting firstly with a full renovation.

Follow this up with a course on spa maintenance for your housekeeping team. I ran a bath which initially seemed quite appealing that is of course until I switched on the spa and brown junk came out of the spa jets and contaminated the spa.

Whilst the price was not extreme by any measure (and the staff were more than friendly) I would suggest that this particular hotel needs some attention in the very near future.

Stayed here for 2 nights we had a competition at the friends school so it was a great location close to venue. The room was clean the beds were very comfortable, we had breakfast and dinner in the Manor both days and the food for both breakfast and dinner was excellent the guy that was serving dinner could do with smiling a bit more. overall a very enjoyable stay. The staff on reception were lovely as were the girls in the dining room at breakfast. I would stay here again.

Four of us had two apartments here this week and they were perfectly ok. What are the recent posts on about? The bed was really comfortable, the rooms had everything you needed and the meal in the restaurant was very tasty. It's a little out of town but not too far. Nice view down to the bay. The staff were all pleasant. It's. Three and a half star hotel, which is about right. I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: We had upstairs apartments 7 and 8.

This is supposed to be an great anniversary celebration for me and my wife, but as the matter fact, this was far beyond disappointment.
If you expect that the hotel's room is going to be better than your own living space, which usually people do think they will find a better place to relax, then...you are wrong!.
This place was giving us a bad thought at the beginning on our arrival, It is an old mansion or whatever you call it, but as a hotel?, come on!, at least there's some effort to maintain of what they going to call it a "HOTEL", it's worst than motel!, they don't wash their kettle, spoons, and even vacuuming, very dusty!
That is why, there's no refund or cancellation once you booked this hotel, because they know people are not gonna like it during their stay, meaning would be the guest's misery.
On the promotion photos, you can see a very nice looking bedroom, with the telescope!, and guess what, the telescope is broken!.
one more thing, as normally other people do, they going to explore the city, try to find a nice cafe and restaurants, same thing like us, we going out to have a dinner, and back again to this "hotel" at 9pm, and guess what again??....!!
the main front door was locked!, have to buzz, worst part is the person who opened the door, wasn't with smile and not even say sorry or something, is it normal for hotel to lock main door? even for security?
Rydges have a lot of nice place to stay, but don't know why they have a really bad one like this one.

Room Tip: just try to avoid these experience
