“Grand Chancellor is 80's but grand”
Reviewed May 10, 2013

We stayed at the hotel from 3 to 7 May 2013.
Booked a standard room for two but upgraded on arrival to the Presidential Suite. Don't know why but it must be because we are Port Adelaide Power AFL football supporters who played North Melbourne that weekend. In any event, the upgrade was appreciated, thank you hotel.
The Presidential Suite was huge - three rooms plus study and bathrooms.
The hotel hasn't changed in style from the 1980s but it was clean and had the necessities with a spectacular view over the harbour and Mt Wellington.
We hired a car from the airport and the location and parking was easy to find and reasonably priced at $8 per day.
This hotel is on the main road, close to everything. Some people may complain about the traffic noise but that didn't bother us.
We didn't use the pool and gym but checked it out - it was a pretty good set up.
I would recommend this hotel for future travellers.

Room Tip: Request a room overlooking the harbour (keep in mind also the main street). Excellent location. He...

Stayed two nights with Bed & Breakfast. Nice newly-refurbished corner room with fantastic views of the Hobart harbor. Easy walking distance to restaurants and sites. Good service. Good breakfast. Didn't have time to use the indoor pool but it looked adequate. Only negative was the fitness room which was below mediocre. Would go back.

The Grand Chancellor is superbly located on the waterfront overlooking the harbour in Hobart. The docks are a 5 minute stroll and make for a fascinating meander among the fishing boats. The hotel was renovated 7 years ago and while a little old fashioned, clean, crisp and comfortable. The website is a true reflection of what is on offer: http://www.hotelopia.com/infohotel.aspxP_PARTNER_ID=1&idMarket=827&codhot=84624&gclid=CK648MibiLcCFcgbpQodqFIAcQ
It is a great base from which to take off to see the delights of southern Tasmania. (Don't forget the MONA Museum - a must-see!)
We will return in a heartbeat

Room Tip: In Summer months, select a high room with a harbour/Derwent view. Winter months, a mountain view is...

Stayed for 3 nights in April and was mostly very pleased. We had a lovely room with great views across the harbour and out to sea. The reception staff were all very helpful and took trouble to answer questions and provide good advice. Dinner in the restaurant was also good. The whole experience was a bit let down by breakfast on the last morning. Admittedly it was very busy but whatever processes they have in place broke down completely. The waitress delivering teas and coffees was walking around offering them seemingly at random to any table that was without. The result was many wrong orders and/or long delays. In our case when the coffee eventually arrived it was undrinkable. I truly believe they had put fresh hot water into a previously used filter pot and re-served it.

Stayed here for 4 nights. After reading some mixed reviews here we didn't have huge expectations but still expected a good stay. Well we left quite happy!

1st off we got a really good rate on a Harbourview room. It was of good size, nice view and comfortable. No notable noise at all (level 15) and had a pretty good sleep every night. The gym and pool area is really good for a hotel. You will find it very hard to get a better gym inside of a hotel (so don't know what people are complaining about!). Pool did get busy at times, but was still a bonus being heated and indoors.

As everyone says, location is really good. Parking can get busy and hard to get a spot if you arrive back at night, but we still got a spot. Another minor issue is only stairs going to the lobby from the carpark. Would not trouble most, but we have a 1yr old and his pram, considering this staff were always willing to help.

Restaurant was great for both dinner and the buffet breakfasts.

Would book here again without questions and recommend it to anyone.

Grand Chancellor Hotel in Hobart is a nice hotel to stay at. We arrived early in the morning and was accommodated before check-in. The agent who helped us were very kind and accommodating. Our room was clean, spacious, and overlooked the waterfront. As we sat looking out the window, a cruise ship came into port. The waterfront was always busy with people strolling about.
