The hotel is reasonably clean and tidy, most things work.

I paid for a superior room but found the beds uncomfortable, room service and the restaurant were awful for breakfast, although good for dinner.

the bathrooms were largely clean (apart from long black hairs left on bathroom floor - not mine!)

We stayed at this hotel about 10 years ago. We were very happy with it then. However, we were even happier with it during our last stay. The hotel has done renovations to the rooms that are really nice. It feels like a 5 star hotel. The breakfast is a little over priced - but the location is so amazing , you can get up, walk along the port and go find a nice little bakery to have a lighter breakfast.
The people are so friendly and will help you find whatever you may need. The only thing I will say is that it is WORTH IT to pay a little extra for a view of the water- the view out the back is pretty boring!!

Whilst some of the public areas are looking ok our room was certainly tired and was exceptionally noisy - street noise, other guests in adjacent rooms and the showers/taps noises were on-going.

The atrium lounge/bar - what service?? they were certainly understaffed. We sat at our table - no staff member to greet and seat - and we waited and waited for service - eventually went to the bar and behold there were the menus with very clear writing on them that you had to order at the bar - silly customer - you are supposed to be able to read them from the seats around the lounge. Clearing!!!!!! - well when we (two of us) left there were six glasses ( two from nibbles) still on our table and the fork and salad pieces that were on the carpet under the table when we arrived - yes still there when we left.

Service in the restaurant for breakfast was fine - the buffet breakfast ordinary

Stayed here late in March. Had a great couple of days. This hotel is excellently located, easy to find, and has a great range of facilities. The bed was comfortable, and quiet, and the hotel has a range of eating and drinking options, and an art gallery (which never seemed to be open...typical of Tasmania, everything always seems to be closed whenever I visit). The food at the restaurant was excellent, if a bit pricy, and the bar area outside great for a late night meal overlooking the harbour. We had a mountainside room, which was very spacious, clean, and had a good range of options. The service was impeccable, and the staff were very friendly. I'll definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Even if you go for the cheaper mountainside rooms, they are very nice, quiet and spotless.

I stayed for 2 nights on a mostly sunny weekend. The hotel was easy to get to from the airport by shuttle. The check in process was acceptable, as my partner had checked in the day before. The room was pleasant enough, unfortunately facing the mountain side rather than the water. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings pleasant enough. The bathroom was OK, but certainly did not offer toiletries and little extras I would have expected in a Hotel of that category. Towels were average quality. The shower head leaked even when the water was turned to bath spout.
Irritatingly Wi-Fi was not available in the room and internet was not free. So many cheaper hotels offer free internet that I find it irritating that the more expensive ones think they have to charge for it.
The room was serviced either very late morning or early afternoon, which I also find annoying. They should have a list of who is staying and can get it done early, and who is leaving that day.
We did not try the restaurant as there was more choice just nearby. The café was not open early in the morning when I most needed it.

Room Tip: A room facing the water would have been nicer as the views are just splendid.

Location cannot be bettered. Simple as that. Rooms are currently being refurbished but even the old rooms like ours are quite good. Service is excellent. The one downside is breakfast. For years they have put cheese on their grilled tomato. This is completely unnecessary. The potato and the baked beans have weird unnecessary additives too. Lastly nothing is ever hot. The good point is that they cook eggs and omlettes to order. So the longstanding breakfast buffet lets down an otherwise very good to excellent experience.
