Although on this trip I didn't get a room facing onto the harbour, it was fabulous seeing the early morning sun on my walk down to the lobby. Had breakfast here with my niece- the price of the hot buffet breakfast is a bit over the top for what is provided. The rooms are adequate. Reception had trouble with my bill, which took ages to sort out.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the front looking over the water

Stayed at the hotel grand chancellor for a conference and was not disappointed. Fantastic view over the harbour, very comfortable and spacious room. Conference facilities were excellent. Recommend the deluxe room with harbour view as sunrise over harbour was amazing. Easy walk to ferry to get to MONA and pleasant stroll to Salamanca market on the Saturday morning. Only negative.... When are Aussie hotels going to routinely include fee wifi?

Room Tip: Stayed on 16th floor harbour view deluxe room and wasn't disappointed.

I was horrified to discover that the delightful Hobart waterfront was disfigured by the Grand Chancellor Hotel! Surely the ugliest building in hobart. That said, once inside the rooms are nice and the view across the harbour is inspiring. However the hotel internet service is extortionate and offers a tiny data limit by modern international standards. Come on, get with the times! Other gripes; when I got to my room I was startled by another man coming out of the loo...they'd given him a key by mistake; the heating didn't work; the traffic noise is rather high and I had to sleep with ear plugs in.

Although the hotel is starting to show some signs of age (i.e. it's "well-loved" Boral elevators), it is a pleasant place to stay.

I was only disappointed that they couldn't accommodate us for a longer stay, and that our room was on a low level with no view.

Having stayed at the GC about 10 years ago, the investment in furnishings and the rooms has made a great difference (think: marble bathrooms). I stayed one night this week, 18th floor, mountain-side room with a great view of snow on the mountain. Awesome. The menu hasn't changed; but the seafood spaghetti is STILL delicious and breakfast (room service) was more than I coud possibly eat. Newspaper delivered, great amenities provided. Minor negatives: mattress was firm; there was a long hair in my wash basin upon arrival. Otherwise - FAULTLESS, friendly staff on the front counter.

Room Tip: Mountain view worked for me

First time staying here. Have eaten in the restaurant before this trip and I was not disappointed again.

Room was a bit average. Liked the bathroom but found the room to be a bit drafty. Found that the windows were not airtight which if colder could have been a problem.

Car valet was a little slow in returning the car back.

Only stayed one night , location second to none if you don't have transport.
Right opposite the famous Constition Dock, Mures seafood restaurant and a short stroll to the attractions of Salamander place (bars, restaurants and galleries )
Rommel overlooking the water, comfortable quiet and just what we wanted.
Would stay again when in Hobart
