A conference in Hobart saw me returning to the Grand Chancellor. It had been a while since I was last at the hotel, although not long since I'd been in Hobart. Was delighted to be upgraded to a corner suite on the rather optimistically number 18th floor. (They only had 10 or 12 levels, so go figure!). Nonetheless the view across Constitution Dock to Battery Point and beyond only served to remind me why Hobart is my favourite Australian City by miles.....

The rooms appear to have received a make over during the past couple of years and they really are of a good standard. Room had everything one would need complete with a very well thought out desk for working at. The bed was fabulously comfortable.

Staff are first class, but at Reception and in the bars and restaurants. The Concierge Staff are particularly helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: Facing the water, preferably on the Southern corner for fab views across Battery Point, Sandy Bay an...

We stayed three nights and were in a room on the 17th floor overlooking the docks and out to sea. Despite the main road being just outside, the room was reasonably quiet during the day and at night. The room was very spacious, clean and well-appointed. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and a fixed glass screen for half the bath length. This was not totally effective and quite a lot of water splashed onto the bathroom floor making it quite slippery for anyone entering the bathroom or when getting out of the shower. Although the room was above the basic for the hotel no bathrobes were supplied or slippers however the toiletries were good in both quality and quantity.
Internet access is free and is via cable only in the room and wi-fi only in the lobby area and lounge, but not the restaurant. Wi-fi really needs to be available in the rooms these days as so many travellers have portable devices.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a waterfront view - it's worth any additional charge.

Stayed here whilst on a work conference and there were definitely pluses and minuses. Let's start with the pluses...Our room had an amazing view, hobart is so beautiful! the restaurant had a great breakfast, the bar remained open till late, the staff were friendly, the location was fantastic, conference rooms were large and well appointed, bathrooms were good, large and great lighting/mirrors for getting ready, rooms were well appointed and clean. Minuses...AWFUL mattresses, they really need to do something about those. They are so hard and uncomfortable that it ruined my days because I could just not get a good night's sleep. They are poor quality and sagging in the middle, they definitely need replacing urgently. Also the conference food was very ordinary..nothing had any flavour and they don't even provide salad dressing with your 'mixed leaves'...this was disappointing. We also had to go and buy our own bottles of soft drink if we wanted it whereas at most conference venues we are usually served jugs of soft drink. Also I need to mention here the elevator/stairs situation...given such a large hotel and the number of conferences being held if you want to get up to your room at 'rush hour' you'll be waiting 20-25 mins just to get into the elevator. The staff would not allow us to use the stairs as they were for emergencies only, this made it stressful at the end of the day to get back in enough time to be ready for our transfer for dinner. All in all, it was an OK experience but I probably wouldn't stay here again unless I was assured the mattresses had been replaced.

Room Tip: Ask for one with the newest mattress.

Scored a mountain view room for $95 through Wotif mystery hotel deal. So a basic room in this hotel, but excellently presented and functional for a one-night business stay. Gym was well appointed and easy to access, and check-in/check-out pretty seamless. Does exactly what it says on the tin.

We stayed three nights at the Grand Chancellor Hotel for a long anniversary week-end in Hobart. Our room was a Superior Harbour View room on the top floor which was well presented with a king-size bed, dresser, desk, single and two seater lounge chairs with a coffee table; a nice comfortable room for a three night stay. The buffet breakfast was very well done with plunger coffee to the table; a chief doing eggs the way you want, pancakes, and simple eggs Benedict were all beyond what I would say is a nice standard buffet. The whole feel of the hotel is spacious, clean and airy with large public areas under the atrium (even with some dodgy Tassie weather outside) The harbour views from our were superb and hard to take your eyes off. There was a muck-up on checking in though with our package not noted and we were given the wrong room and with no bubbly but this was rectified reasonably quickly.

Love Hobart and the hotel was in easy walk of Salamanca Market, CBD and the MONA ferry. We went to the Drunken Admiral restaurant and Mures upper and lower deck for some lovely seafood which we enjoyed but really there are so many eating places close by. We went to Mona museum was 'interesting' but the Source restaurant’s degustation meal with matching wine was simply superb.

Thoroughly enjoyed every component of our stay at the Grand Chancellor, Hobart.
Had a recently refurbished 'green' room which was beautiful.
Would certainly stay again.

Stayed here on business and thought it was great. Very good service from the staff and the location was second to none. The room was very fresh and modern and was apparently a newly refurbished room. No doubt I'd stay again.
