“Great place for everyone”
Reviewed July 4, 2013

Well organised for everyone, children and adults alike. Great Antarctic exhibition and one dedicated to the sad story of the thylacine. The early paintings an insight into settlement of the Hobart area, many fine furniture pieces also on display (some items donated to the TMAG by the MONA in 2006). We spent just over two hours here, found the museum/gallery informative and
plan to visit again when next in Hobart.

“Interesting and odd”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

The Tasmanian museum has a number of very good galleries that are well worth visiting (especially as there is no admission fee), including a nice exhibit describing the plight of children who were forced to emigrate to Canada and Australia from the UK. I also enjoyed the galleries in the Bond Store that explained the history of Tasmania and its wildlife. On the other hand, the art didn't make much of an impression and the Ian Burns exhibit was just a tad too weird for my liking. But to each their own... In any case, if you're in Hobart and have an hour or two to spare, you could do far worse than to visit the museum.

“enjoyable”
Reviewed June 25, 2013

My Grandfather I are visited the museum due to wanting to see the new renovations.
We were not disaapointed, building is gorgeous and displays clean and easy to follow and understand.
This is a great upgrade from the way it was before the renos.
One down side was they erased the convict display which I think is very important in Tasmanias history.

“Great revamped museum”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

This museum has undergone a 30million revamp(Ithink), is more hands on for the kiddies, which makes life easier for the parents, plus it has more relevants exhibits for the younger ones. I have been lots of times previously but really enjoyed this time. I loved it as it was also open late on the Dark Mofo Friday night. Made it a little more exciting, with what was happening on the wharf

great museum!! fantastic coin and medal collection from first days to empirial Victorian medals and notes. staff are very knowledgable and friendly. the gift shop is not much chop and I love a gift shop so that was a bit sad. oh and the Tasmanian tiger display was fantastic only it made me a little melancholy but I guess that's a good thing because it may inspire people to get behind the plight of the Tasmanian devil
