Owner description: The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is Australia's second-oldest established in 1818. These gardens are home to the largest collection of mature conifers in the Southern Hemisphere and it also has the only subantarctic plant house in the world. A great restaurant and cafe is available onsite and it is a wonderful place to visit all year round. Visit our website for more information.

The entry is free but you are asked to give a 'voluntary' donation. Very reasonable. The gardens are well laid out and it is easy to get around on foot, or, I would think, if you are disabled. (It is on the side of a hill so there are some gradients to be covered.) The restaurant and shop are right in the middle do easy to access from any point and has great views over the river Derwent. The gardens have a good range of the flora and fauna of the island and the displays of the ferns werre excellent. You need about three hours to do the site justice.

A really serene place to visit. Whilst not large it is really beautiful and you have good views of the harbour and the harbour bridge. It is actually walking distance from central hobart, but it is hilly so comfortable shoes are in order.

The botanical gardens was well worth a visit. Great information and service from the volunteer staff. Some of the gardens are under renovation, but the chinese gardens are well worth a visit.

We really enjoyed our time here. If we'd had time we'd have spent at least one whole day as there was so much to see. Plants and trees were so well labelled, and the ongoing planting of new gardents was lovely.
Particularly liked the Japanese garden and the floral clock, which we could see from the restaurant balcony.

Very green and peaceful, but sorry to see that the vege garden is ripped up for development.
The Japanese Garden is very nice, where did the big bamboo come from?
Well worth the visit, gold coin donation entry.
