Owner description: The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is Australia's second-oldest established in 1818. These gardens are home to the largest collection of mature conifers in the Southern Hemisphere and it also has the only subantarctic plant house in the world. A great restaurant and cafe is available onsite and it is a wonderful place to visit all year round. Visit our website for more information.

Having visited Hobart many times I am not sure how we managed to miss a visit to the botanical Gardens. Got there this time and it was great. The highlights included the Lily Pond and the conservatory. The most enjoyable part for us was definitely the Japanese Down Garden which was full of surprises and a feeling of tranquillity. There were many other interesting places so allowed a few hours to get the feeling of the place if possible. Just don't miss it!

Lovely setting, beautiful location nestled by the city and the river - ver peaceful.
Interesting styles of garden - not so sure about "evergreen" - we were there in the middle of the heat spell and felt that everything looked very dry but a beautiful part of Hobart nonetheless.

Beautiful gardens, lovely setting and the cafe/restaurant has a great variety of food options. The meals we had tasted lovely and the coffee was great too. The staff were also very friendly. Definately worth a visit when down in Hobart, whether travelling or a local.

A lovely garden with many interesting features. The old garden has some lovely trees in it from 'the home land' planted many years ago.
An interesting Arctic garden which was small but fun
