Owner description: The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is Australia's second-oldest established in 1818. These gardens are home to the largest collection of mature conifers in the Southern Hemisphere and it also has the only subantarctic plant house in the world. A great restaurant and cafe is available onsite and it is a wonderful place to visit all year round. Visit our website for more information.

While relatively small for Botanical Gardens, these are very well planned and beautifully maintained. There is a wide variety of different sections making you feel that you are in gardens of some extraordinary size. Well worth a visit if you are looking for somewhere to get away from the hustle and bustle associated with travel.

The cafe/restaurant looks over the gardens and provides a wonderful place to sit, eat and enjoy a drink.

Lovely meal and a great setting in the centre of the Botanical Gardens in Hobart. A place to truly relax over a nice meal. A walk in the gardens after lunch is a must.

The Hobart Botanical Gardens are an absolute delight, particularly in Spring and early summer. Their rose and iris displays are stunning riots of colour. We particularly enjoyed the Japanese garden with its water features and pavilion, right next to the French fountain.
One unusual feature of the Gardens is the sub-antarctic room which is chilled to represent the damp and mossy environment of Australia's sub-antarctic islands in the Southern Ocean.
We enjoyed a pleasant afternoon tea in the restaurant with spectacular views over the gardens and the Derwent River.
While the Gardens are close to the city, we would recommend taking a taxi. We found our walk over several steep hills and down a bush track rather taxing. The Gardens themselves are also built into the side of a steep hill.

Very well maintained gardens. Take a look at Pete's veggie garden, very informative.
Short walking distance from Hobart center.

There's not much open on Christmas day in Hobart but the gardens are, and they're free (gold coin donations welcomed). Well kept and plenty of space to picnic.
