Owner description: The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens is Australia's second-oldest established in 1818. These gardens are home to the largest collection of mature conifers in the Southern Hemisphere and it also has the only subantarctic plant house in the world. A great restaurant and cafe is available onsite and it is a wonderful place to visit all year round. Visit our website for more information.

“Magificent”

After watching Peter Cundall we decided to seek out his vege garden. The gardens are beautiful, especially the tulips.

“worth a look”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 30, 2012

This is a wonderful way to spend a couple of hours. The setting is lovely, overlooking the Derwent.
We were there in October and the Camellias and Rhododendrons were quite spectacular. Masses of color everywhere. But the best of all was the Conservatory where the stunning displays of orchids, cyclamen and maiden hair ferns were quite breathtaking. If you are visiting Hobart, try to spare a couple of hours to visit this place, you won't regret it.

“My office”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 29, 2012

If you go nowhere else in Hobart, visit the Gardens. They are the most relaxing and scenic that I've used - having lived in Melbourne and Canberra and used the Gardens there often, and also visited Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide. The only shortcoming is the relative expense of dining at the restaurant. But the gardens and displays are wonderful - well planned in a series of small "rooms" with surprises and delights around every corner. My favourite is probably the swathes of cyclamen under deciduous trees near the large arch. I regularly use this as office space for thinking and note taking. There is also free wi-fi internet anywhere near the restaurant.

“a beautiful example of a cold climate garden”

Very picturesque! You need hours to wander around, and take it all in. Tranquil and interesting at the same time. Definitely worth a look.
