Owner description: Step inside Australia's oldest operating brewery, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Wellington, to learn how Cascade has been crafting beer since 1832. Our guides will share Cascade's fabled recipe; a dash of history, a healthy dose of Tasmania's finest ingredients and a generous serve of brewing craft. You can take a tour or just relax and enjoy Cascade beers and Mercury ciders, savour a delicious lunch and wander our three acres of heritage gardens. The Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week between 10am - 5pm, excluding Good Friday and Christmas day and tours operate daily.

We visited with a group in late February. Tour was okay however, guide was a bit robotic and attempts at humour were forced. We had a few complimentary beers and that's where they got us! $9.00 for an okay beer is a bit steep. Lunch specials were cheap and so you get what you pay for with a $15 steak! inedible, stringy and raw however, the second one was marginally better.Brewery buildings are looking a little tired and run down. Worth a visit for the history though.

Liked : good value for money. $25 for tour then discount on your meal ($15 for hearty steak, chips and Salad ) with three free tastings of beer (200ml)(bottle of soft drink for the non drinkers). Beautiful gardens and setting. Staff friendly
Disliked: tour it's was pretty basic.
Improvements - Better displayed brewing process (information board) (theirs was very old and all over the place and hand made).
Would be good to have more visual access to individual parts of brewing process.

The factory tour lacked interest because nothing - and i mean nothing - was operating. The tour guide however, was knowledgeable and very informative. The gardens and grounds were beautiful, the restaurant good and the beer still excellent. For me, i am interested in seeing the way the beer is brewed not just hear a lengthy dissertation in an uncomfortably warm and closeted part of the factory. Does this factory still produce? Or are tours, restaurant and bar all that operates on the cascade site?

tour lasts for an hour and a half and you actually get to walk through the factory (which is uncommon these days). At the end you get to try three beers in the bar/restaurant which is awesome. The bar is surrounded by glass walls overlooking the scenery, excellent place to visit.

We weren't originally going to do a tour or anything, but when we arrived at 11.30 there was one just leaving so we went along. It was quite interesting, you get to go through the proper factory areas. It was a shame there was no bottling taking place that day, but they just don't sell enough to be bottling every day.

The guide was engaging and informative, and the history of the site and company very interesting.

The price of the tour also got us 3 proper sized beers or ciders at the end, plus discounted lunch which was delicious. We just lazed around the bar all afternoon until they closed at 4pm! They do a tasting paddle as well, but this isn't very good value - just keep buying a glass of whatever you choose.

The gardens are nice but take only minutes to peruse.
