Owner description: Step inside Australia's oldest operating brewery, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Wellington, to learn how Cascade has been crafting beer since 1832. Our guides will share Cascade's fabled recipe; a dash of history, a healthy dose of Tasmania's finest ingredients and a generous serve of brewing craft. You can take a tour or just relax and enjoy Cascade beers and Mercury ciders, savour a delicious lunch and wander our three acres of heritage gardens. The Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week between 10am - 5pm, excluding Good Friday and Christmas day and tours operate daily.

Even without going on a brewery tour (which we didn't do), Cascade brewery is certainly worth the trip. If you're staying in Melbourne and driving up to Mount Wellington, it's a great place to stop off and sample some of their beers, sit outside in the garden, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings, including the historic brewery itself and Mount Wellington. It made for a lovely stop in the afternoon.

The cascade brewery looks very nice from the outside. The tour however is not worth the money in any way..
You don't get to see much. Most of the process is explained with poorly printed pictures in a small noisy place. The guide's microphone didn't work very well. Also she didn't seem interested to answer our questions.. At the end there is some beer tasting but they only have the 5 most populair beers that you can get at any bar anyway... Overall the place is not made for tours and it really felt like they're just trying to make some money off of it.

TLDNR: Not worth your money.. Go have a quick look on the outside and spend the money in a bar.

We never went to the brewery but rather the restaurant close by which was a great place to have a filling cheep lunch with a good drinks menue. There was a nice garden just outside to go for a wander after the lunch. The trips for the brewery would have been good for any body that hasn't seen how the wicked ale is produced.

What a wonderful surprise! Set in stunning gardens with beautiful water features and a backdrop of the stone brewery, it is a delightful way to spend the day. We didn't book a tour of the brewery so were unable to see over the 'works' however it didnt matter as it is just a peaceful taking in the surrounds. Another highlight was a "paddle" of the available beers - tasters of each type of produce from pale ale to stout.
