Owner description: Step inside Australia's oldest operating brewery, nestled at the foot of the majestic Mount Wellington, to learn how Cascade has been crafting beer since 1832. Our guides will share Cascade's fabled recipe; a dash of history, a healthy dose of Tasmania's finest ingredients and a generous serve of brewing craft. You can take a tour or just relax and enjoy Cascade beers and Mercury ciders, savour a delicious lunch and wander our three acres of heritage gardens. The Visitor Centre is open 7 days a week between 10am - 5pm, excluding Good Friday and Christmas day and tours operate daily.

Great tour, well paced and a good mix of anecdotes. The tasting session was good, but you were limited to only three tastings from a range of about 10 options which felt a bit mean, but that's pretty typical I guess.

Thank Clairett

We started our 10 night trip in Hobart and Cascade was booked out so we ended up going back at the end of our trip and booked in. Very informative and interesting tour. Good value as you get 3 beers/ cool drink to have at the end of the tour. Stunning grounds and lots of opportunities to take photos. We also ate lunch in the cafe and this was very delicious. Very relaxing afternoon.

Loved this place, the location is stunning & the Cascade brewery is grand! Didn't go on the tour as we were too late but we enjoyed the gardens & the cascade beverages. Highly recommended!!

The Brewery is located neatly on the south-western edge of Hobart but within a comfortable (for a person who likes to walk) walking distance. I did the tour with the tasting. The tour itself was lead by a guy who seems to know what he was on about and was entertaining. Got to see various parts of the brewery itself as well as the museum. Was about the right length, not too long or too short. You got three middies (half pints) of beer to taste at the end and a short tasting talk.

What I liked about this place though is that you could come in here anytime and have some tasty food and quality reasonably priced beer at anytime and enjoy there pleasing (if not amazing) gardens. The visitor centre was just a chilled out place to spend a lunchtime. In terms of stuff to do in Hobart proper I'd say this takes some beating.

This was our second trip in a little over a month.
My wife's extended family (about 30 of us) had previously gone for a lunch prior to my mother-in-law's funeral and, while the tone was a bit low around the table, the food and friendliness of the staff prompted me to book another reservation for my son's 18th birthday yesterday (2 Oct).
It didn't disappoint. They cater for young children (there is a 5.50 or 7.50 kids meal of nuggets or fish with chips for 12 and under) and a reasonable selection on the menu which caters for most tastses: steak, seafood, chicken, vegetarian and gluten free. A specials board also has the specials of the day. At Barb's pre-memorial lunch it was scallops (nice, although lacking the full taste of a fresh Tasmanian scallop) yesterday it was Salmon and Spinach on Pasta. Our youngest (14 year-old daughter) ordered that and was particularly pleased with the outcome. A lot of the group ordered steaks, all cooked to their liking by all accounts and while some had the well-presented chicken breast, others had the lamb rump. The kids liked their kids' meals - especially the two-year-old who tried to stuff his nuggets in whole!
Beer is from the brewery across the road and should, in my opinion, be cheaper than anywhere in the country but is sold at normal bar prices (rather than reaming the tourist who do the tour - which is nice). However, the Visitor/Function Centre provide the full range of Cascade products on tap and are poured well. They also stock a range of Tasmanian and interstate wines, but few are served by the glass.
There is a pleasant garden which you can stroll through and which you can view from the panoramic windows.
Ideal for functions, wedding and so forth.
Pricing is very good: steaks were 22.50 for rump/24.50 for porterhouse. Lamb, chicken were 21.50 and 18.50 respectively and it should be mentioned that Cascade also produce some of the best natural fruit juices and toppings in the world!
Worth a trip up to South Hobart if you're local. Worth the tour for interstaters and overseas visitors.(all the people doing the tour seemed happy and are given a tasting tray of beers at the conclusion of the tour).
All-in-all another pleasant day and will definitely consider this if thinking of a large booking again.
