“Great value hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2009

Stayed here for 1 night & 3 nights in September 2009 and was very satisified with what I got for a very decent price. The hotel is not much to look at from the outside but the location is pretty good - a short walk to the harbour or to the CBD. The rooms I had were of a very decent standard - clean, looked like they had been fairly recently refurbished, nice beds, TV, nice shower. Parking was free, just need to let the reception know so they give you a note to put on the dashboard. All the extras here seemed great value compared with most hotels, the minibar (which I never normally touch in hotels due to the cost) was reasonably priced, breakfast buffet (which I didn't actually get to try so can't comment on the quality) was only about $10, internet access was charged per MB instead of a flat rate. It was refreshing to go to a hotel and be able to make use of the extra services without feeling a bit ripped off! Will definitely stay there the next time I'm in Hobart.

Trip Advisor came through again! This place was spotless, large room, great price. Withing walking distance of the harbor sites/restaurants. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Free, but limited parking. If you are a light sleeper, the morning rush hour traffic could be an annoyance. It didn't bother us. Free, full breakfast.

We booked the Fountainside after reading all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. So glad we did - it was fabulous! Everything you could want in a hotel and more. The location, cleanliness, staff, value for money. The mini bar was the cheapest we have ever found.

The dinner in the restaurant was excellent value for money - $19.80 for soup, salads and a main. They were delicious, unpretentious meals. We didn't try the breakfast but I overheard other travellers raving about it, $10.80 for a buffet - amazing value.

The room was lovely, overlooking the fountain with great views and even though it's on a very busy roundabout, the noise wasn't a bother at all. The king bed was so comfortable, provided a great night's sleep. The shower was large and lovely also.

Clean room, lobby and helpful, lovely staff made it a joy to stay.

It was my first time to Hobart and already I am planning another holiday, and first stop will be checking into the Fountainside!

When we drove up, I was very skeptical, it is located on a very busy round-about, and quite ordinary looking. Lobby is typical of a small hotel. Staff was pleasant. I can't believe people complained about the lift, it was just fine. Hallways were clean and updated with large windows. Room was clean and comfortable. There was a flat screen TV in room ( we stayed at very upscale hotels in other cities in Australia and they hav the old fat ones) The mini bar was cheap! Breakfast was $10.80AU which is veryreasonable and room was only $90 US with kingsize bed. How can one complain?

The good:
The rooms are new, modern and functional. The staff is polite and helpful. The mini-bar, telephone and internet rates are REALLY inexpensive. A week's worth of internet cost me less than 2 days worth in Sydney. A bottled water at the minibar was $1. Parking was free ! The view of Mt. Wellington and of the Queen's Domain was wonderful. The breakfast buffet is relatively inexpensive, as is dinner menu.

The bad:
The roundabout outside the windows is busy all day (and most of the night as well). There is some traffic noise, although it is less on the higher floors. Ask for a room on the 6th floor.
The breakfast buffet could use some more variety, and perhaps a hot cereal on occasion, especially during the colder seasons. Dinner is also fairly good, but the menu doesn't vary, and you might want to eat dinner down at the docks or up on North Elizabeth for a much wider range of culinary experiences.

Service:
Very average.

Room:
Newly refurbished to a very good standard. But old armchair in the corner is odd and not fitting with the quality of the rest of the furniture. Average furniture with comfortable mattress.

Bathroom:
Newly refurbished to a high standard with good quality fittings by Groehne and Villeroy & Bosh.

Location:
Immediately on first roundabouton entering Hobart from the airport. Close enough to Elizabeth St and Salamanca to walk in 10 - 15 mins.

Additional:
Minibar prices so low you could be shopping in a supermarket. Can of soft drinks for AUD1 and cans of ready mixed spirits for AUD3,50. Bags of crisps for AUD1,30.
There is also an excellent park with trails for running or biking directly across the other side of the road/roundabout on which the hotel stands.

After looking at other peoples reviews - i would generally agree to everything. The rooms are very large, very clean and in great shape (no wear and tear). There was a huge plasma is the rooms, so that was handy.

The mini bar again, was cheapest i have seen - so agree with others! Free on street parking, and its a bargain! My only gripe would be that we were facing the highway, and i had a wonderful first night sleep, but a shocking second night sleep due to the traffic noise. Would i stay there again - yes if i was traveling in a party of three. I have also stayed at the Leisure Inn Macquarie - the rooms were fantastic, but the lobby and lift were crusty (beware their lifts).

Overall - great staff, good location, and very reasonable price. The rooms were good too.
