Stayed here for three nights in January 2014. Arrived about 10.30am hoping to leave our cases but happily our room was ready and we could move right in. The room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Our only negative with the hotel that being next to a busy roundabout, it could be a little noisy. Staff were friendly (as indeed were everyone we met in Hobart) and helpful.
We normally never eat in hotels but in the evening we were so tired, we went to the hotel restaurant - very casual and superb value. I had great soup and Porterhouse Steak for less than 24$ with drinks at store prices. Indeed it is worth mentioning that the room mini bar is stocked with items at store prices - what a treat from every other hotel we have stayed with mini bar at inflated prices.
Hotel just a short walk from Hobart centre and waterfront. Almost sorry I can't give it five stars (or 4.5) but that traffic noise was an issue particularly early morning but would definitely stay here again if visiting Hobart.

Situated on the North side of the CBD - this is an excellent opportunity to walk through/explore a different part of the lovely CBD each time you go to the dock or Salamanca place. 5mins to Elizabeth St mall. Only a 15min walk to Salamanca place (filled with lovely restaurants and galleries). Hotel rooms are large, spacious, good quality beds, huge new TV, good aircon, large good bathroom, nice lge white towels, great range of soaps & shampoos, tea/coffee making. Excellent value. Highly recommend.

The Fountainside Hotel has large, recently renovated rooms. I stayed in a King Room, this room had a very comfortable bed, large window facing a park and the Tasman Bridge. It is about a 10 minute walk through a few backstreets to Constitution Dock with waterfront restaurant's, and a 15 min walk to Salamanca precinct. It is close to the Hobart CBD. There is free WIFI with a great signal and a mini bar very reasonably priced. The Hotel has no facilities such as a pool, fitness centre, but it does have a restaurant. The rooms are serviced but on the 2nd day the cleaning staff forgot to make the bed, clean the bathroom and replace the towels. When I mentioned this to reception the lady was very apologetic, personally came to my room with fresh towels and offered complementary breakfast. Great customer service! They charge $11.90 for a hot buffet breakfast which was fine, and they also serve dinner. I have to say I had dinner twice and didn't really like it. For the price of dinner you get soup, salad and a main. I don't think there is an actual chef on duty, it appears the meals are pre-made and simply heated in an oven. I found the mains to be very dry and tough. But if your looking for a nice hotel room with friendly staff then I have no hesitation in recommended this property.

The hotel is in a great location 5 min casual stroll to Constitution dock, a further 5 minutes to Salamanca Market.
Our room on the top floor was very spacious, with a comfortable bed and spotlessly clean. The buffet breakfast is very reasonably priced, as was the mini bar.
When we return to Hobart would definitely be staying here again and would recommend it to family and friends.

Well. Free Wi-Fi!
Mini-bar at shop prices, $1.50 a can of soft drink, $5.00 a premix can.
How can you beat this anywhere in the world, let alone Hobart.
$11.80 breakfast, with all the usual items.
Comfortable beds and clean rooms, double glazing so that you don't hear the traffic from the roundabout below,(we were on the 3rd floor.)
Cannot recommend this place highly enough.
My only criticism is that the toiletries provided were from NZ.
Tasmanian ones would have made it a 100% review!

As so many people have noted, this hotel is well located and offers very good value. The exterior is not particularly attractive but our room was spacious, with a very comfortable bed and a spotlessly clean bathroom which seems to have been recently refurbished. We enjoyed the very reasonably priced buffet breakfast but did note that on some occasions the cook seemed to find it hard to keep up with the supply of poached eggs - perhaps some extra assistance would be helpful? The waterfront is only a five minute walk, whilst Salamanca Place is five minutes beyond this. We were very grateful to the staff member who kindly arranged for my sister to be accommodated on a rollaway bed in our room for a very small charge when her other accommodation plans fell through. Great service and very friendly assistance ensure that we would be happy to return!

Room Tip: Try to get a room a little higher as there is some noise from the nearby roundabout.

My elderly mother and I spent 2 nights at Fountainside as I decided to travel earlier than originally booked in a waterfront apartment and they couldn't fit us in. I had read some less than favourable reviews but we were presently surprised when we arrived and thought it was a great hotel for a family. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful. It's located an easy walk to everywhere you'd want to go and public transport if that's your thing. As it's near the hospital and TAFE it's handy to a lot of local services. The restaurant is good value and their breakfast buffet (just $12 for guests) was excellent - as good as any in a major hotel I've had.

The only caution I have is for very light sleepers. It is on the major roundabout as you come into Hobart and while not a noisy location really in the still of night the noise can carry up to the room.

Room Tip: Higher floors will have less road noise but it's not too bad
