Well within walking distance of the Salamanca markets and the city centre. Parking can be an issue but was not for us. Dining room meals and wine were excellent value for the money. Friendly helfpul staff. We needed to print a boarding pass for the trip home and staff were very happy to do that for us. Excellent room amenities.

Good location within walking distance to some great resturants and the docks as well as Salamanca.

Was impressed with the mini bar prices. they did not have the huge inflated prices most places charge.

Breakfast in the dining room was so cheap $11.60 per person for hot and cold breakfast.

Rooms are very comfortable and clean. Our bathroom had a massage shower head which was great after a day of walks.

Will be staying here again!!

This hotel had great reviews and they are well deserved. Its certainly not a looked from the outside but the rooms are lovely. we were in a superior room on the top floor and it was very modern. we had a view over the gigantic round about which was very interesting! and the entrance to the botanic gardens. we only stayed one night but would stay again. The room was very quiet and dark and very comfortable beds. Nice staff too. highly recommended. Very cheap mini bar too, a beer for $3!!!!

Room Tip: Superior rooms on top floor very quiet

We have stayed in many 5 star hotels around the world but the Fountainside impressed us in ways many of the big luxury chains cannot. We stayed there on three separate occasions and every time the Fountainside did not disappoint.

For example, the mini-bar prices were NORMAL food and beverage prices, so that we were encouraged to actually use the mini-bar. Also the telephone calls were charged at normal prices, even for international calls.

We stayed on the 7th floor which are apparently the luxury rooms, very spacious and new. Only gripe was the showers which had those really annoying flexible showerheads that positioned themselves any which way but directly onto you. And no shower door or curtain so that after a shower the whole bathroom floor was wet. Who designs these ridiculous “trendy” bathrooms??

Parking is free, and plentiful.

The Fountianside Hotel is in a pretty good location on the edge of the CBD, near to Royal Hobart Hospital and docks, but the only downside is there is no convenience store or restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

The staff were very pleasant and helpful and cheerful. Top marks!

The restaurant is cheap and simple but be aware you get what you pay for. Good value for a basic feed.

Overall, fantasic value for money and we would definitely stay there again. Great to see an independent hotel giving the big hotel chains a run for their money!

Room Tip: Go for the 7th floor if you can afford it

We booked two nights here at the last minute, after our reservations on the Tasman Peninsula were cancelled by bushfires. The room was recently renovated, large, and was very comfortable with a large high-definition TV, and free internet. The location made for an easy drive from the airport, and there is free parking in a lot right at the hotel. It is an easy walk to the city center. We enjoyed eating at Fish Frenzy. And it was easy to drive north out of the city from here. The breakfast was very good (not included), but the dinner, which we had on a night when we were tired and did not want to go out, was just OK.

Room Tip: All the rooms face the road. We were on the 4th floor and it was quiet, but I imagine higher up wou...

This Hotel was in such a great position - short walk from the city centre and yet far away enough to avoid noisy weekend nights. Breakfast prices were fantastic - not a gourmet meal, but definitely hit the spot! Really convenient if you're heading off on an early tour and need a quick bite before you leave. The mini bar was SO well priced. I have never seen prices that low in a Hotel!!
The staff were always really nice and very helpful with recommendations.
The room was spacious, we stayed in room 709, top floor with garden views. The only issue I had with our room was that the mattress seemed to have been worn in on both sides which had created two hollows in the bed - my husband and I couldn't sleep near each other because these lumps in the bed had made sleeping in the middle extremely uncomfortable. We didn't mention this to the staff, yet in hind sight should have.
I would recommend this Hotel and when we go back to Hobart will definitely consider staying here again!

Room Tip: Make sure the mattress is not too lumpy!

A great hotel with a very central location. During a busy time in Hobart (taste of Tasmania, end of Hobart yacht races etc) it was great to be able to access all activities and attractions on foot. We had a studio apartment which was well equipped and recently refurbished, The large corner window provided a view across to the docks.
