Macquarie Manor
Ranked #31 of 48 Hotels in Hobart

During our holiday in beautiful Tasmania we stayed at the wonderful Macquarie Manor. As this was our sixth visit it was like going to visit old and dear friends. Angela was there to greet us with our favorite room ready and waiting for us. All the staff at Maquarie Manor are fantastic with unbelievable service day and night in a surrounding of quite and peaceful luxury.

The entrance and the dining room with its incredible decor and
ambience are a pleasure to view while feeling safe and secure with your own private key to the front door.

Our room was warm and inviting while I'm sure they have the best beds in Hobart. Everything including the bathroom etc was spotless with plenty of fluffy towels and everything a weary traveller needs. Maquarie Manor is situated in the middle of Hobart with everthing within walking distance but the beauty of it is when you close the front door you could be in a mansion anywhere in the world. such serenity and peace. A true treasure.

We just stayed 1 night and for the price we thought it was very average. The rooms were huge and very old-fashioned (which is fine) but there were no windows to the outside so you felt a bit boxed in. The room was VERY noisy - traffic even though we were on the other side of the hotel and at 7am a loud banging started up in the wall that I think came from the plumbing. For $190 there are far better places to stay in Hobart.

We spent a total of 3 nights at the Quality Inn Hobart Manor - there are two properties which are across the street from each other with similar names. This hotel was rated "four star"
vs. the other property.

The hotel is basically an old manor house that was converted into a hotel. The rooms were very spacious - we actually had 1 queen bed with 2 singles, a spacious room, bathroom was small with no bathtub but a shower instead, there was a small love seat with a small TV. High speed internet access was available but throghout Australia we found that it usually did not come free. Breakfast is available at the hotel in the morning,
we did not try it but it was quite pricey from what i recall around 12 AUD.

The receptionist was friendly and very helpful. They have a small parking lot (car park) in the back that fits about 10 cars, you can also park on the street as well after 6pm and before 8am. The location was easy to find - it was convenient to the harbor as well as other sites in and around tasmania.

Our only complaint was that the price we were able to get for the hotel did not really match the amenities provided. At a different price point, this hotel would have deemed adequate, but we were paying nearly 160AUD/night and had much better
stays at hotels for 30-40% less in other cities in Australia.
Also, if you did not have a car, there isn't much around the
hotel area - you pretty much need to drive 5-10 minutes
to find restaurants, stores, etc. Although if you are in Hobart, you probably would need a car.

Bottom line: clean rooms, spacious rooms, smaller bathrooms, more of an antiquated hotel - not as modern, good location.

This hotel is an old residence, and the rooms are large, but not particularly well laid out. The surrounding area can be noisy, although once we figured how to close the windows tightly, this was less of a problem. The best feature is the location, only a few minutes walk from Battery Point, a charming neighborhood, with lots of cafes and restaurants. The broadband connection in the room was erratic.

The Quality Macquire Inn feels more like a B&B than a hotel. The rooms have high ceilings, and the breakfast room is very classy looking.

We had a room in the back on the first floor. It was very comfortable, big, and had free plug-in high speed internet. The breakfast was hot with eggs and sausage, toast, mushrooms. No crumpets, but no one is perfect.

There was a note in the room that said “please let us know if you are not 100% satisfied and we’ll do what we can to remedy”. We really got the impression from the hosts this was the truth, as the service was impeccable and personal.

The only thing wrong was the street traffic, which we could hear in the early morning. If it was within their power, I’m sure the hosts would have done something about it—they were that nice.

If you’re a real light sleeper, I’d bypass this. If you aren’t, then the friendly service and close location downtown will be perfect for you.

We spent 3 nights at this hotel at the start of our self guided tour of Tasmania and 1 night at the end of our tour. We specifically selected this hotel based on the the many very positive comments of Trip Advisor members. We were not disappointed and in fact were delighted with every aspect of our stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms were very spacious with very high ceilings which accentuated the spaciousness. Bathrooms are small but very functional with excellent shower facility. Breakfast buffet provided all that you needed for a healthy and hearty start to the day. Will be happy to stay again if we return to Hobart.

I travel for work most weeks and so know hat I like in a business or holiday hotel. The Macquarie Manor is a hertiage listed building that was originally a personal residence. Rooms have been tastefully restored and are immaculately clean. Plenty of space, everything works and good water pressure. Staff are very obliging and friendly. Less than five minute walk to Salamanca or The Mall, 10 minutes to Elizabeth Pier. This is a very comfortable place to stay and has become my regular when in Hobart
