I was staying here for a conference and assumed I would have a tower room, as many of my colleagues did - no such luck! I was on the bottom floor of the Mountainside annex. The ceilings are very low, and it did feel dungeon-like after my previous accommodation in a heritage pub with high ceilings and water views, which cost only $15 dollars more (and included breakfast and broadband). While the room included the usual conveniences and was reasonably comfortable, there was NO internet access, you had to pay by the hour for wireless access over in the main hotel. Wrest Point in general is really like staying in a big RSL club that has not been updated. This provides an interesting retro feel (eg the rooms have baths, unheard of in budget rooms these days!), but the lack of mod cons such as internet is a killer when there on business. It's also a long hike (or $10 taxi fare) to the centre of town for restaurants, ferry etc.

Room Tip: Stay in the tower, not in Mountainside.

Do not book Mountain Side, stay in teh tower. Our room was down on teh lower leverl of the Mountain SIde which really are Motel rooms, we could see the walkway leading from teh building and we could smell the cigerette smoke from everyone standing out there smoking.. Room was clean and warm shower was hot and strong. Used the gym and pool very good.

Room Tip: Book Tower not Mountain side, food good.

Stayed in the Wrest Point Mountain Side for 3 nights. It is an annex building of the main Wrest Point Hotel / Casino connected with a footbridge. No lift for the Mountain Side Building. So if you stay on the 2/F, like me, you have to either take your luggage one storey up from the ground floor entrance or one storey down from the footbridge by stairs.

The room size is fair with one queen bed plus one single bed. The cleanliness is also fair. Although it is named Mountain Side, there is no view at all, not even a mountain view. Shower is available but there is no bath tub. The Mountain Side itself is a 3-star hotel at most but you have to pay the 5-star restaurant price in the Wrest Point main building which is about A$25 per person.

The good side of this hotel is its near-water location. You can take a walk along the waterfront and relax in the lawn area. You need to take a 15-min walk to the nearest supermarket and restaurants in Sandy Bay. If you choose to walk to the downtown Hobart, it is about 30-40 mins. But it would be a nice walk if you are not in hurry. Given the price of this hotel in summer is about A$125 per night, I would recommend either similar grade hotel in the downtown or pay some top ups for the Wrest Point Water Edge.

I have stayed several times at Wrest Point in the different types of rooms and believe the Mountain Side ones are the best value. You don't get great views from the window and be aware there are flights of stairs to access them (ie maybe not best option for elderly or disabled), but we only paid $105 for the night. I was attending a work function at Wrest Point. The rooms are large and have many TV channels. The little free extras are nice like hot chocolate and cookies plus a newspaper in the morning. Big comfy bed with a table and chairs. The rooms have been renovated and are bright and cheerful. We were aware of a little noise in the morning, but nothing too disruptive. These rooms are not 5* luxury, but if you want that, book an Executive Suite in the Tower. If you want a good value room and access to all the Wrest Point facilities, I would recommend...

I stayed overnight in a mountain room as I was attending a conference at the Casino. I got a pretty cheap rate - $116 but it was a very average room. It smelt quite musty and I had to walk down two flights of stairs to get to it - no lift! The bathroom was something out of the 70's - although it did seem to be clean. The main problem was the noise - I got very little sleep as it appeared everytime someone in another room used the bathroom - I could hear it very loudly. The window could be opened - however there was a very very bright light on all nite so that was not really an option. On the positive - you do get free valet parking and the parking fellows are very helpful. I would not stay here again.

I have stayed at Wrest Point on a number of occasions while on business and thought it best to finally write up a review! I would like to make clear that when traveling on business my organisation chooses where I stay in Tasmania. I can choose where I would like to stay for business outside of Tasmania.

I had one night at the mountain side room. Check in was quick and efficient.

The room itself was clean and I would class as 3 star. It is adequately appointed with the mod cons one needs for a stay. It has a table and chairs, and my room even had an extra single bed. If you are after luxury (or a view) you will need to book a room in the Tower.

Since I was there on business with an early morning to follow, I made sure that all the amenities were available for the morning before I went to sleep. A hairdryer was not available so I rang to have one delivered to my room. While waiting, I realised that I could smell smoke in my room, and on opening my door to the corridor, it was very obvious that guests were smoking in this non-smoking hotel. When my hairdryer arrived, I mentioned this to the staff member who admitted, yes someone was smoking in a non-smoking hotel and then left! I did expect to have something done about this.

The room, bed, linens and so on are fine for a very well corporate priced business stay. However, the level of noise in the building may turn off business travelers. I could hear all noise from the corridor and the rooms next door. I did not have a very restful night which is so essential for me.

Breakfast was included in my stay and the staff at the Coffee Shop upon greeting me were not friendly. I am always a supporter of my home state of Tasmania and the tourism industry here, but when greeted in the morning with "room number?" instead of "good morning" I can see how tourists would leave this beautiful island with negative comments.

The food itself was ok, but I then had to prompt the staff to find out exactly what I was allowed to eat as part of the continental breakfast package!

Checkout was fast and efficient. If I had a choice of where to stay in the Sandy Bay area, I would personally opt for a B&B along Sandy Bay road over this accommodation (and the B&Bs are a similar price). Without a choice, it is a good room but noise can be a problem.
