Description: Jam Jar Lounge opened in 2009, quickly establishing itself as a unique cafe/wine bar perfectly suited in historical Battery Point. Jam Jar was recently selected as one of the Top 10 Cafes in Hobart for 2014 (Tasmanian Food Guide Editor's Choice). In addition to operating as a cafe by day reviving the iconic Aussie "Jaffle" on it's breakfast menu, it also offers authentic Japanese "Ramen" noodles and a range of healthy "Bento Boxes" for lunch. Jam Jar has built a fantastic reputation for it's legendary Friday nights serving Japanese Tapas (small plates) in a wonderful 1920's jazz themed atmosphere. In response to the overwhelming popularity of Friday nights, Jam Jar is now open on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Our wine list always includes several Tasmanian wines which we change regularly. Jam Jar offers several relaxed areas to enjoy your experience including a sunny "dog friendly" courtyard, quiet library with wood fire, or front communal table for larger groups. For those who insist on privacy we invite you to book our back "shed" with seating from 6-8 people. Free Wi-Fi is available during business hours.

“Relaxed and quirky cafe with great coffee & service”

Stumbled across this great cafe in Battery Point during a walk and stopped in for a coffee. We sat in the courtyard which was great! Loved the funky decor and different themed areas. The coffee was great too. Will definitely visit again if we return.

“Going back in time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013

A lovely old fashioned little coffee shop with nice coffee and good food. Pleasant outdoor area at the rear as well as inside. Original old fireplace and old world charm. Good 'smooth-jazz' style music made it all like going back in time. A great place to visit.

“My breakfast came all the from the 90s!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2013

We were visiting Hobart for the weekend and decided to wander around Battery Point in search of brunch. Jam Jar looked like an inviting, cosy cafe and reviews were mostly positive.

We started to rethink our choice after we entered and realised that every table in the front room was booked. We were shown to a poky cold room by the toilets, and told to order and pay at the counter. The menu was also pretty uninspiring. But we were hungry and hungover so we ordered anyway...we should have known better!

Eggs Benedict ($15) was a single slice of toast, covered in two slices of cheap, shiny, supermaket ham with vinegary shrivelled poached eggs. The big breakfast ($22!) was also a single piece of toast with premade (frozen?) has brown triangles, an anemic sausage, bacon, and some fried cherry tomatoes and button mushrooms. Everything was served on big square plates just like in 1996 and the seasonings used were 'Oil' and 'Salt'. Considering the quality of the produce available in the area, and the price bracket this place is positioning itself in, it was surprising to be served such dodgy food. It was like a cafe breakfast from 15 years ago. It was so ordinary I would have complained, but we'd already paid. I can see why they use that system!

On the plus side, the coffee was really great, and at least the food was served quickly, so we were able to leave.

Loved hanging out there ... Great food but don't be in a hurry. coffee is divine, eggs for breaky and okonomiaki for lunch. Great mix of Aussie and Japanese fare.
