“Outstanding Must Do”

So much history, we thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Brian. The information about the convicts was so interesting I couldn't get enough. This tour is a must see whatever you do don't leave Hobart without experiencing it. This tour whet my appetite for Port Arthur.

“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

Fascinating visit facilitated by Jeff our well-informed guide. The background information was extremely interesting and the actual convict/prison/chapel site is really worth a visit.

The site is very accessible and within walking distance of the major hotels in Hobart.

Also, has a well stocked National Trust shop.

“A Fascinating Surprise”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2013

Our tour was above all expectations. Our guide, Barry, really knew the history. We were made personally welcome. The tour was extensive from the chapel to the cells to the underground tunnels to the court rooms to the solitary confinement cells & the gallows. Great visual history made even more interesting by Barry's explanation of the history, the convicts & their relationship with the free settlers. Take a camera. We spent nearly two hours on the tour & could easily stayed longer but for other tour groups.

“A trip through time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2013

This National Trust property is on the outskirts of Hobart city and is not among the general touristy things around the docks. But it is worth the effort to visit and see how both prison and conservation of history has changed. Our tour guide Jeff was full of interesting information about the history and treatment of this part of Hobart's convict history. Best to visit and find out for yourselves.
One thing to note is the 2 hour meters in the surrounding streets, our tour went over time with a bigger group and we returned to our car 5 minutes overtime and had already been given a parking ticket.

“Great place to visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

I didn't even hear about this place until I was already in Hobart and looking in the Visitor's Centre for something interesting to do. One of the best places we went to and rivalled Port Arthur in terms of historical significance and heritage. Our guide Barry was informative, enthusiastic and knowledgeable in the subject matter. Great for history buffs and convict enthusiasts.
