From the outside the blue and white livery makes it look a bit like a dry cleaners rather than a restaurant, but once you go in it's a very nice atmosphere. Food is excellent and good value. Service is friendly and efficient. Definitely worth a visit. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner but we only ate dinner there: Pappardelle Pasta, Roasted Chicken, Pumpkin and Cashews with Garlic Cream was wonderful - not too rich. Others in our group had the Duck and Orange Risotto with Chick Peas and Rocket and loved it.

This place had been recommended to us for brekkie so we tried it one Monday morning and were not disappointed. The weather was fine so we chose to sit outside albeit in the shade. We were soon brought menus and as i am a great believer in "chowder" as an indicator of the chefs expertise i enquired as to why in this menu it was referred to as New York Clam Chowder and not Hobart chowder. The waiter who told me he wasnt the owner didnt know but did let me know it was sold out; which was a pity as i would have liked to have compared it to
The Shippey Arms which serves an excellent chowder which can be enjoyed in their bar as well as in their dining area. When our meals arrived we tried to engage the waiter in small talk but although the restaurant is very small and was not at all busy [we were the only people seated outside] he seemed to be reluctant to join in which in a city such as Hobart we found disappointing.I must point out now that my wife and i have lived and worked in three continents and generally Hobart is by far the friendliest. In how many cities of the world will supermarket till operators ask you about your plans and then comment intelligentally when you reply ? When touring New Zealand we experienced similar friendliness but we were touring and not working but never the less this young man should realise that the competition in Hobart is very keen and some enthusiastic repartee might guarantee that people not only enjoy their experience but will return for more of the same. Remember; not all foreign accents are from foreigners! Some of us are indeed locals.Despite this tiny gripe we will definitely be back.

A lovely, bright and airy cafe with great food and coffee. By the former owner of the Macquarie st Foodstore when it was the best place in town.

Friendly staff. Food was above average. The clam chowder wasn't good, but the pancakes were great. A little pricey. Would return again if I had the chance to eat more pancakes.
